All the Swedes I’ve talked to refer to the # sign as square. Like “to get your balance you press star 1 2 0 square and then call.”

In the UK it’s called a hash. I get a lot of funny looks when I set up conference calls here - ‘press the 6 hash to mute your line’…
Some in Sweden call it brädgård instead of fyrkant (square), but all systems using DTMF in Sweden says “fyrkant” in the instructions.
I just remembered that automated phone answerers here call it “the pound sign.” I had no idea what they meant for the longest time.
