The Take on CBC

Peter Rukavina

CBC Television will air the Avi Lewis and Naomi Klein film The Take on Thursday March 24 at 8 p.m. This played at City Cinema earlier in the year, and was quite interesting: if you’re around a television on Thursday, it’s a good watch.

You’ve probably heard about the goverment’s attempt to evict the Zanon workers from their factory and have perhaps have signed Naomi Klein’s petition:

www.PetitionOnline.com/zanon/p…

I just received an e-mail from my friend who, inspired by the documentary, went to Argentina to visit some of the factories in January - this past week, workers in the factory have faced death threats and violence while the legal decision on the status of the factory is pending.

People are being urged to support the workers by calling or sending a fax on Monday, March 21, between 12pm and 3pm Argentina time to President Kirchner, Governor Sobisch and Judge Barreiro.

I was born in Argentina and really liked the film (it was very touching). If the owner of a factory closed it because is not profitable. I think the workers should be able to take it and make it profitable, but repay to the original owner let’s say in installments with a very minimum interest (The minimum time should be 50 years).

Besides Mr. President isn’t this what Argentina did with their creditors? They negotiated the debt to repay 30 cents of a dollar.

I will call that “expropiacion” too.

Good luck,

Ariel
