Air Canada 'upgrades' their website

Peter Rukavina

Air Canada ‘upgraded’ their aircanada.com website today, and in doing so they appear to have left Firefox (and Safari) on the Mac behind:

Air Canada: Go Away!

The “Viewing Tips” section of their site says, in part:

aircanada.com is designed to be compatible with most browsers on the Windows platform, but we recommend specific configurations. Many older versions of these browsers do not support the latest Internet technology (such as style sheets, JavaScript, SSL security or frames).

Their “Recommended Macintosh Configuration” is “Macintosh OS 9 or later / Internet Explorer 5.0 and above.”

Has anyone at Air Canada actually ever used Internet Explorer on a Mac?

Hi. I find this attitude extremely bizarre.

The PowerMac G4 I’m using has Safari, Netscape and Internet Explorer. I use all three depending on the circumstances.

Air Canada has just limited their potential clientele and this will severely limit their ability to function. After all, they’ve only been operating under their new structure for three months.

I, for one, will probably avoid using their website to book flights.

I hope that someone in their IT department wakes up and smells the latte.

I’ve written to aircanada.ca demanding they fix this problem and/or fire whatever incompetent (or on-the-take) dunce they have who can’t build a site that’s compatible with Firefox. Idiots.

I’ve done my part in emailing them with a complaint too…

“Our IT department won’t allow us to run Explorer because it is considered a security risk.
Why is this site not compatible with Mozilla Firefox?
Can this site be fixed?”

So far I can only be HOPEFUL that my email “requires a resonse”!

Mine was a little more … well, direct. “If your Webmaster/Site Designer is too incompetent to design a site that can work with Mozilla Firefox, please fire them and get someone fresh out of college to do the job better and cheaper. Fix this problem or you will lose business.”

Or something like that. I have no patience with morons.

… and today Air canada responds. This e-mail is cut and pasted, with their grammar and syntax left intact (including what appears to be at least one missing word):

Personally, I love the fact that I have a direct link to the “techass” who designed a website that only IE can use.
