Who are you?

Although it’s hard to get really accurate information, the logs suggest that some two or three hundred people stop by here every day. Sometimes you are return visitors, sometimes you are looking for information on Tim Horton’s coffee secrets.

As I’ve spent much of the past week developing online reader survey systems for a client, I’ve become curious about you the readership. Some of you I know because I’m related to you, others are friends from Charlottetown and beyond. Still others I “know” only through what you’ve written here.

A year ago, I had a sort of “reader survey poll” here, but the results, in their anonymous numericalness, were unsatisfying.

So a humble request, dear readers: would you mind taking a minute to tell me some brief snippet about yourselves? Just click on the DISCUSS link at the bottom of this note, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and type me a few words. Nothing complex or involved required — just give me an idea of who and where you are.

Does anyone remember The Orangutan Story from the early 80’s on a late-night nationally heard radio talk show? It was a news article read by a caller about an orangutan that got loose. I laughed so hard I fell out of bed.

Well… I used to hang out over at http://itasnt.itas.net:8080/~p… but I guess the plug has finally been pulled. I googled it to see if maybe it had just been moved, and I found this thread. I’ve been to this page before though — I think through a link on cityfilter.

I have nothing to do with IT or web design or anything, except that I spend way too much time on the net and do the blog thing. I’m a student up here in Summerside at Holland College AITC (machinist program).

Wow, this thread will be a week old next week. :D

Hi Peter. Found your site after googling “CBC PEI” to catch up on some Island news…

I loved your “About” page, summarizes my feelings about the web design biz precisely — especially the bit about “interactive marketing crap” and corporate b.s. — how absolutely true.

I’m currently a refugee from the web design world, am also a trained librarian/archivist. Am returning to school however in the fall to study Practical Nursing.

I dream of relocating to PEI — I have family there (mom’s side — Macdonald) and used to summer there for many years (first at my uncle’s place at 200 Hilsboro and later up at a cottage in Stanhope). Almsot bought property there last fall. Want a heritage house like yours ;)

Am currently living outside Toronto, looking after an againg relative (hence the interest in nursing), who I’ll bring with me wherever I end up.

Hey, I went to Trent U. too. And your partner Catherine Miller’s name sounds awfully familair — did she teach there per chance?

Actually, Bruce Dalzell is a hell of a guy who performs music and tunes pianos in the little town of Guysville (hidden in the Appalachian region of Ohio).
He hosted an open stage mike at the college club “Mr. Bojangles”. The club was nestled along Court Street by the Ohio University campus (one of our top rated party colleges).
I attended O.U between 1980 and 1982. Bruce and his wife
allowed me to audition my really bad comedy acts on stage.

Just about every talk show I can hear…Rush, Lars Larson, Howie Carr…are ALL anti Kerry. Too bad this talent is being wasted on such a dangerous man…Mr. Bush I mean. With the mess we are in now, I can’t imagine how bad off we’ll be in 4 years….Trillions of dollars deficit, A minimum of 10,000 American dead in Iraq and we’ll STILL BE THERE! The Rich getting more tax breaks and the poor getting poorer…How can my fellow Americans be so BLIND! George Dean

I stumbled onto your website while trying to find out exactly what duty we pay when we have something mailed to us in Canada from the U.S. (I had $75 charged on a ring being returned after repair in the U.S. because it was insured for $300 — that is 25%!). Your explanation of duty free was a good refresher.

Does anyone know how to find out what duty is charged on what?

I’m a 63 year old grandmother who couldn’t find “discuss” to click on as instructed so instead clicked on “comment” assuming one needs to comment in order to discuss a thing. I got to this site as I was researching the meaning of “sic” and how to use it properly. Some unerudite (is that a word?) individuals have called me the grammar police. I once asked a friend of one of my grandson’s where his brother worked. My grandson’s friend said, “He work at Wal-Mart.” My grandson told his friend that he’d better add an “s” to work or get out my reach.
