Who are you?

Peter Rukavina

Although it’s hard to get really accurate information, the logs suggest that some two or three hundred people stop by here every day. Sometimes you are return visitors, sometimes you are looking for information on Tim Horton’s coffee secrets.

As I’ve spent much of the past week developing online reader survey systems for a client, I’ve become curious about you the readership. Some of you I know because I’m related to you, others are friends from Charlottetown and beyond. Still others I “know” only through what you’ve written here.

A year ago, I had a sort of “reader survey poll” here, but the results, in their anonymous numericalness, were unsatisfying.

So a humble request, dear readers: would you mind taking a minute to tell me some brief snippet about yourselves? Just click on the DISCUSS link at the bottom of this note, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and type me a few words. Nothing complex or involved required — just give me an idea of who and where you are.

Peter, I have been enjoying your site for almost 2 years now although I seldom will make a comment. I was hooked on your site when I worked at silverorange, currently I work at Trapeze Media an animation studio in Ch’town - where Flash does great things!

I like the PE flavor, thought I’ve never been there. (I wish you had a slot below for URL.)

Good idea Peter - are you going to keep a running link to the side for this thread?

Anyway, for the last five years I lived in New Glasgow, PEI, worked at Patterson Palmer and then at silverorange where I learned how to embed a HTML link among other things. On a very fast turn around, I got a position with Kingston in their in house law group and am enjoying practicing without the issue of billing. While Steve has been invited for tea at HQ, I am your fifth cousin-in-law through the Drydens and impose a tremendous price upon you for that privilege over the last couple of years. That all being said, I really want to know who Wayne is as I spar with him on a daily basis it seems.

Hello Peter. I attended a lecture you offered to my class of ‘99 BISD program at Holland College. An Islander, I migrate between Ch’town and Moncton for, among other reasons, my work with a consulting company which entails some teaching (ouch), English Language Training for the RCMP in NB and I.T.work on a website called Globaladaptation.com. I like running, golf(ouch) and current events. I find that your site is a finger on the pulse of the Island, and I enjoy it very much.

However, being out of theatre, almost entirely, for over a year, my soul has dwindled to a small, dry ball of hard, red clay. I hope that this summer

Hi, Peter

I like your blog ‘cuz it has the ecclectic mix I like: everything. There’s nothing except daytime TV and people who watch it that doesn’t interest me and it’s aggravated by having an opinion on everything and thinking everyone’s entitled to it. Sometimes tho’, for giggles, I’ve been known to shut up. Oh, yeah, and “There is only one Muppets Show and Fozzie Bear is it’s prophet.” *giggling hysterically*

Hi Peter - I got to your page after spotting your link as the creator of the www.gov.pe.ca site - probably the most perfect php mega-info site ever. I’ve been visiting reinvented for 3+ years. Hi Peter - it feels like I have been visiting forever but I’m sure it’s not quite that long. I suspect Kejp of That Ilk first told me about your site, but it could also have been Two-El Willson. I became a denizen of PEI in ‘97 and it makes an interesting change from England. As far as your organ is concerned (the blog, not the gall bladder), mostly I like the eclecticism and the very high quality of your writing (and that of many of your visitors). Blogs seem to be restoring the wonderful art of the essayist.

Hi Peter: I began visiting your site, following the demise of www.kevinjobrien.com. I now visit several times a day, just so I don’t miss anything. I am a thirty-something professional living and working in Charlottetown. I prefer to remain anonymous, as I’m sure my boss wouldn’t appreciate the amount of time I spend “surfing”. Of course, I like to think of it as research. I enjoy your “blog” in a variety of ways. Thanks.

Hi Peter,

I have been visiting your site for quite some time now. I remember coming to look at the pictures of the cows outside your office window — I think they were cows but perhaps just a field. At that time I had no windows in my office, and still don’t, and was very jealous of your good fortune.

I was born and grew up in Charlottetown but now live and work in Hsinchu, Taiwan.

Your site keeps me abreast of all the “goings on” at home.

Peter,

Thanks for the excellent job on the PEI website. I visit it almost everyday in anticipation of the yearly trip my wife, daughter and I make to the Island. I’m a Trent grad, still living in Peterborough and working in the imaging industry with Olympus America. We’re always looking for an excuse to leave Ontario and plant ourselves on your beautiful Island. Perhaps one day we’ll give in to the urge. Looking forward to Charlottetown in July!

Peter,
I’m a Cleveland Cavaliers fan who lives in Virginia Beach, VA. As a child, I used to listen to WWWE on the AM dial. My older brother in the bottom bunk, me in the top in a stuffed little apartment in Uhrichsville, OH (about 2 hours south of Cleveland) tuning into WWWE to listen to Cavs games. Joe Tate at the helm and then this crazy Rush Limbaugh like Al Franklin.
OH God! The memories! I’ve continued to be a fan throughout the years…..and this LeBron James hysteria! I LOVE IT!
What happen to WWWE? I can’t find it.

Hey, I’m Brian, and I reside in Boston, MA; and online at recently.rainweb.net. I’m not a regular visitor, but got directed here by a comment from Peter on Steven’s at Acts of Volition. Not terribly surprised to see a strong silverorange presence in the readership! Hope to get up and see PEI. We have (very tasteful) PEI tourism commercials down here! Hello Peter!

We met a few times when I was doing sysadmin things for PEI-Net/Cycor… the greatest PEI-based national ISP that never was (quite).

Since then I’ve journied around the Internet bubble to places I never thought I’d see and attended OSCOM3 on my personal “shoestring budget” to mingle with open source and content management denizens.

Seems like you’ve been having a great time too.

Say Hi to Jamie H. if you see him.
