A couple of years ago, I wanted to set up the Pagoo system to act as my answering machine. To do this required a service from the phone company called Call Forward Busy. At the time, the phone company told me that no such service was available; I pressed them with CRTC rulings, and then, as if by magic, the service became available. It’s interesting, in this light, to find the following notice on the phone company’s website:
(*Call Forward Busy is needed to make this service work. If you were to purchase this or a similar service from another provider, Island Tel would charge residential-line customers $2.25 per month and business-line customers $3.25 per month on your phone bill for Call Forward Busy. That’s in addition to what you pay your other provider. Island Tel bundles the two together so you can save money!)
All they want to do is to save me money!

The telephone exchange used
The telephone exchange used by Aliant in Charlottetown is a Nortel DMS and having worked on this system I can tell you there is Call Forward Busy feature available - it is provisioned to you using SERVORD on the DMS; the code is CFB.
The way Aliant had set it up for me in the past I was only able to turn it on or off, and the number it was forwarded to was always the same - you have to inform Aliant what that number would be.
I know that there is a way for the CFB feature to be programmed to any number you would like, but Aliant only offered the ability to forward to a single number.
There is also Call Forward No Answer, so after a three rings it forwards.
I used to annoy Catherine at Aliant (PEI) every time I changed features, which were supposed to be free with my business line. She began insisting I pay! So I reccomend you talk to Trent Francis (if he’s not on strike) he was much less prickly.
