My iBook, which appears to be operating normally otherwise, and still retains its ability to take and hold a battery charge, has stopped telling me how much battery life I have left:
I’ve tried resetting the PMU, and zapping the PRAM; neither had an effect. I’m open to suggestions.

Hey Peter, not sure if you saw this already or not but try this link to the Apple Battery Software update, It is to address the exact problem you are having, it should have showed up in your software update though. Anyway, for what it is worth here it is:

I have a 2002 g3 ibook, 12”
I have a 2002 g3 ibook, 12” screen… anyhow, when I click on the battery icon an option for “show time”, “show percent” and “show neither” comes up. I hope that works for you.
Update: under the AppleCare
Update: under the AppleCare warranty, I received a new battery today. It solved this problem.
