Christopher Og writes, in the Guest Book:

Oh, erk. Your survey doesn’t have a Comment On This feature. Which is fair enough, as it also doesn’t include what might be one of your most significant visitor groups: Non-anonymous interloper, resident on the Island, but quite likely from away, who knows of you but doesn’t really know you. BTW, you forgot to add the obligatory “An Aliant Company” to the IslandTel ref. This will presumably invalidate the survey results as it will artificially depress name recognition.

I’ve added the discussion feature to this item (sorry about that — needed a little more renovation), and have added the option you suggested to the “poll.” I haven’t added the Aliant text as I don’t want to appear smarmy.

I am signing up as a non-anonymous interloper, but I just wanted to add that I am not from away.

I am in Occum’s transition like Ogg. Non-Islander maybe more so ever day but like the arrow in Occum’s paradox I will never get there (I think I have the right Greek when I say Occum). What is my category? I have solved this as we are fifth-cousins-in-law and therefore family. I will be over for the loan and dinner soon.

Is he the cat that talked about the arrow going into the way never making it as its reduced the distance to the wall by a percentage for each unit of time? [I get all bleary somewhere after Thales and all this philosophication gets me all confued.]

And before you ask,Time’s Arrow is something else altogether and it was Dief who killed off the Avro Arrow. Now Andrea, as you seem to be in the know - Occam was a Franciscan, but was he a Scholastic?

The cat that talked about the arrow must be Schroedinger’s cat: The arrow’s reached the end and not reached it, both at the same time. Or at least until the cat’s out of the bag. That’s how I remember it. (If it was originally in Latin I might have got it garbled)

I voted before the new ‘interloper aware of you’ option was offered. Although I am not ‘likely from away’ this is the option I would have chosen if it were available. Left with the choice I did have, I was forced to choose ‘friend’ even though we had only met, very briefly, maybe once, years ago. Don’t take this the wrong way, but if you can, take one vote from the ‘friend’ category and put it in the ‘interloper’ category. This is asked purely for the sake of statistical accuracy and in no way should be taken as a comment on your worth as a friend, or as a potential friend, as the case may be. Perhaps we can be ‘friends-in-waiting’ or ‘2nd degree friends’ or, to borrow from the old Tradewinds slogan, ‘friends who haven’t met yet’ (even though we did, albeit briefly, yet without incident or memorable banter)
