Brackley Drive-in vs. Hurricane Juan

I received the following note from my friend and customer Bob Boyle at the Brackley Drive-in:

I thought I would email you and show you what has happened to the screen during to hurricane. All is lost but will return. Insurance will cover a small portion of the cost to rebuild if any. It feels like a death of a friend when I look at the space where it once stood for 44 years bring enjoyment to those who came over the years and myself. A new screen will rebuilt but it won’t be from 1959. We will be taking donations to help rebuild so we can continue the drive-in for many years to come for all of our our drive-in fans. Today is day 1 in the rebirth of the Brackley Drive-in once again.

He sent this photo of the damage:

One of the better pictures yet showing how much damage this Hurricane really caused.

Oh good god. I live in Stanhope, not far away, and it is very sad to see this. But I’m glad they intend to rebuild.

Yeah, I’m glad they will rebuild. I have some pictures at home on my camera of the damage caused in some areas of Halifax… I’ll let you guys know once they are online.

So very sad to see the damage to the drive in screen — I hope they are able to rebuild and continue such a fine tradition — my young children think the Brackely Drive In is a bit of heaven of earth — and they are right.

I am gald that the drive in is opening in June. Since my family moved to PEI eight years ago it has been a tradition for us to go to the season opening weekend of the drive in, as well as through the summer. We look forward to continuing our tradition!
