Flaming Oil Barrels

Peter Rukavina

Strike procurement question: how do picket lines so quickly get equipped with flaming oil barrels that strikers can warm their hands over? Aliant workers down the street haven’t been on strike more than 48 hours, and they’ve already got one going. Are oil barrels really that easy to come by? Give ‘em hell, guys.

We need to give our friends at Aliant as much support as we can…they’re fighting to keep their jobs on PEI…they’re fighting against contracting their work out to other sources…they want to ensure their future…that they have a fair pension upon retirement…that they have security upon their return to work. I hope they win.

I know many of those who are freezing their butts off can’t afford to stand there all day. I let them know I support them every time I drive by.

Props to those who are braving the elements to keep their jobs. here. for you.

Lighting a fire in a barrel is simple compared to climbing poles, or whatever it is they usually do.

Did you think they were so tame they couldn’t survive in the wild? They’re not pets & livestock. Or are they!

Also, isn’t burning oil what Saddam did in retreat?
How do you know it’s oil?
They should burn a few calories, or better yet, phonebooks!

Burn your phonebill in support!

Labour solidarity honking, like geese during childbirth.

‘Toot your own horn’ they yell, ‘toot your own horn cause we’re not going to now we’ere on strike.’

At least they don’t sabotage cables like the Capers.

They have an oil barrel at the main office on Belvedere as well. I live in that area and had to jam my car past the piles of people, signs and cars. They are passionate about this. I also love the port-a-potty they’ve gotta going on at this location as well.

Nothing says sticking it to them then standing outside in the cold and making your way with nature in a teal green box. I think I’d rather strike in front of my tv thank you very much. :-)

But all kidding aside, good for them. They get my thumbs up too.

The firemarshall has put an end to the fires burning in the oil drums… Striking union members will have to find a new source of heat.

Their striking hours at Belvedere are from 7:30am until 12:00am now. Can you imagine?!
