Voice Over IP Goodness

Just finished an interesting conference call: Johnny was dialed in to the Reinvented Asterisk server via the VoicePulse DID number in Peterborough, New Hampshire from his home in Vancouver. My colleagues at Yankee did the same thing. I dialed in to the Reinvented toll-free number to get to the Asterisk server. And our colleague Steve dialed directly into Yankee’s office.

Six people. Two countries. Four locations. Worked like a dream, with excellent voice quality.

Perfect VOIP can’t beat legacy dial tone or cell because it is trapped in the internet and cell & long distance rates are cheap & getting cheaper.

The marginal savings are like the marginal improvement watching Everybody Loves Raymond on HDTV.

ISDN is another solution to a problem no one has.

So, VOIP over an ISDN line while videoconferencing using your HDTV. I’m just gonna pick up my phone and call.

If you VOIP over dialup is that VOIP over IP over voice (PPP)?

The interesting thing, for me, about VOIP, is not the “savings” in terms of routing calls over the Internet, it’s that I can route, save, transfer, move, etc. calls as easily as I can any other data. In other words, it’s the fact that I run the switch, not the telco.

Peter,
If I understand it, you have a Voicepulse phone number with a New Hampshire exchange?

I had a look at your “LABS” area, and It’s pretty clear what you are doing.
