First there was Viva’s, then the Formosa, and most recently Interlude.
Now comes Out of Africa, a new restaurant about to open on University Avenue across the street from the Dairy Queen, next to QuickDraw signs. They advertise “African” cuisine.
We’re becoming a multi-ethnic food paradise here!
Stay tuned for opening news.

Just want to add another…it’s the Sunrise Chinese Restaurant(beside Cedars), formerly Silver Streams(?), but under new management…a family from Saskatchewan has taken it over. They are trying very hard to determine what Islanders want and so do the usual buffet fare, but I believe they would be willing to make more exotic dishes if asked. As it is, the buffet is quite good quality. As our current Chinese restaurants are generally mundane, I suggest that if you are interested in decent Chinese food you give it a try, otherwise, I suspect they will become very disenchanted with the Island and leave (there have already been suggestions that this might happen)

Mundane? Mundane? Having
Mundane? Mundane? Having spent many late Friday nights at George Lee’s Canton, and the Canton under new ownership, I would dare say, sir, mundane could not be further from the truth.
People need to be accountable for their disenchantment. People from away have been coming and going for generations. Islanders take no more responsibility or notice of these natural occurring phenomena then they would the gentle breeze as it moves across the water, thru the trees and back out over the strait.
Anybody notice that recently an outstanding Island citizen was mistakenly labeled as being an Islander as he was about to receive a prestigious national award? Blaspheme!
