Dr. Ralph September

The CBC is reporting that Dr. Ralph September will begin a temporary contract assignment at Souris Hospital.

I would like to formally nominate that as being among the best names of all time, and perhaps the best doctor name ever.

That, Peter, begs for some elaboration. Do you like the name just for its melifluousness, or because you like the connotions of “September” or (I hope not) “Ralph” in connection with doctoring? If you were writing a screenplay, what kind of guy would Dr. Ralph September be?

It makes me think of a Jonathan Franzen character.

Hmm. I guess I can kind of see that. Maybe somebody who would look at Chip through a cold, clinical and hence unsympathetic eye, which Chip would sense with a resentment that would take ten or twelve pages to express?

Julia’s concerns about the throbbing pain finally got the best of her. She hopped in her jalopy, and headed for the medical clinic. After a brief wait in the anteroom, she was ushered into a the doctor’s office. From behind the desk rose a square-jawed Adonis. “I’m Dr. September,” he said, “Dr. Ralph September”

Shit,” she thought, “this is the guy who Chip tried to run over with his car.” She hoped he wouldn’t connect the two of them. Julia made a mental note to sepak to Chip again about this vendetta. Somehow from Chip’s description of the doctor she hadn’t pictured him as quite so good looking.

After a brief examination, Julia was led into the good doctor’s office. “I have troubling news” he began. “When did the symptoms begin?”

Julia hesitated, “It was right after I broke up with Dusty. Dusty was my boyfriend for 2 years. He plays second base for the Yankees…surely you have heard of him? Dusty Roads.” She did not mention Dusty was Chips brother.

and the poor guy will probably do a google on himself to see what coverage there has been of his arrival…you’ve turned his life into a bodice ripper.

It seems there is a market out there for cheap summer trash novels. I would really like to see where this one goes. Any contributions?

Dr. September had operated on Chips shoulder…specifically his rotator-cuff. Chip and Dusty were to be the first brothers to be starting infielders with a major league baseball team.

It seems the Dr. had mixed up which shoulder was giving Chip problems…Julia had Chips nurse and met Dusty in the hospital cafeteria.
