Further to the there’s nowhere decent to eat in Charlottetown, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Maid Marian’s restaurant in Sherwood (I thought it might be Parkdale, but then, well, you know with the name and all…).
Maid Marian’s is not a place to go for gourmet food. The food there will not change your life. It might not even make you feel better as a human being. But it is the place to go for inexpensive, well-prepared, grease-influenced food served by the most capable wait staff in the city.
If you are pressed for cash, and need a big fill-up at the beginning of the week, you can’t go wrong with “2 for 1 cheeseburger nights” on Monday and Tuesday. On Thursday the special is roast turkey, which is my personal favourite. Portions are large. Gravy is good. And you pay at the cash.

I sure hope the tourists don
I sure hope the tourists don’t find out about this place! The prices are several dollars cheaper than restaurants in the downtown core. You can be out of there in 20 minutes. You save several minutes by not having to wait for your bill. Just go to the cash, and point out what table you sat at. My only complaint is that they use frozen hash browns instead of home fries in their breakfast. The Thursday roast turkey, and the daily lobster roll specials are the best deals around. Maid Marian’s is the Charlottetown area’s best-kept secret!

This was the best place in
This was the best place in Charlottetown for me when I had to stay in town for supper.
I am not allowed liver at
I am not allowed liver at home - robin hates the smell. Where is the best liver and onions?
When I was going to
When I was going to University Maid Marians was our favourite place to scarf a greasy breakfast after a night of partying. We didn’t live very far away and it wasn’t uncommon for us to eat there three times in a week recounting the night’s highlights over a Robin’s breaky.
The group sorta split up after University. Some left the Island and some stayed. I was one of those who left. Those who stayed seemed to get sick of ‘Maid’s’ like when you’ve overdone it on the vodka and oranges and can’t stand the sight of orange juice for months. When I would return for the holidays or summer vacation I always wanted to stop in…..but I couldn’t get my old buddies to go.
