About Mishal Husain

Every since a comment about BBC reporter Mishal Husain was made by “Wayne” back on March 20th, Google searchers have been showing up here looking for information about her.

As an aid to these desperate searchers, here is a brief Mishal Husain bibliography:

I prefer a damm good lookin’ lady as celebrity, myself. Smart, well groomed, nice smile….what we used to call back in the good ol’ days as “The total package”.

I am in agreement with Wayne. My wife has noticed a level of focus I do not display with other announcers - except that fellow Finnigan and his asymetrical ears. My theory on Ms. Husain is the leisurely pace of her blinking…and the way she pronounces Afganistan with a “wa” where the “g” is.

What is it with his ears….I noticed that, too!! I am worried about the way she smiles at him during the news bridges. And, did you notice her left eyebrow, Alan? She can bend it almost 45 degrees…Lord have mercy!

I wonder if she is thinking about his lopey ear. By the way, is asymetrical ear observation a politically incorrect activity? You are on you own with the eyebrow thing, Wayne. I can go only so far in my BBC News host fetishes.

Try to watch her tonight and NOT look at her left eyebrow. (Kinda like forget about the water on the left)

Let me honestly know if you can do it.

From Spain: She’s a lovely face, especially when she gives her right outline in the interviews, it’s wonderful. And what about the way she moves the eyes from the screen to the camera? It’s true: Lord, have mercy! If she smiled a little more…

It’s the slightly disgusted/perturbed face she makes whenever she reports something unpleasant… like a bad smell just wafted past the newsdesk. I love that face!

I like her. I like her a lot. Not to mention that BBC News is more credible than all the other donkeys like Fox, CNN, ABC, CBS, and NBC.

I really think CBC’s Gloria Makeranko is even better looking then Mishal. And her delivery is so smooth, with great intonation, and emphesis.

When she thanks her audience for watching, I mutter to myself…”My pleasure!”

My buddy got a tv dish a year ago and I found channels I’d never seen before, like the Spanish-languague Univision and I went totally dippy for the Columbian knockout, Sofia Vergara. Recently, though, on BBC America I saw Mishal with those lips, sleepy eyes, and the rest! Sofia WHO?? Mishal’s the doll of dolls!

Mishal’s achievements are a source of pride to me, as a fellow Muslim. Actually, I’m amazed at how much motivation she had as a youth to become so worldy (leading her to teach in Russia, studying at Cambridge, etc.) Not to stereotype my own people, but Muslims are usually complacent and don’t place any significant value on education or diverse experiences. Mishal is -very- well educated and well spoken, compassionate, (considering her thesis was on human rights), and on top of all that, is beautiful. And Muslim. Her husband is a -profoundly- lucky man (I’m 9 years her junior and I’m still a mite jealous).

Anyways, I really admire her, both because of her accomplishments, and because she’s doing so much for us Muslims by simply being known; she contradicts stereotypes that unfortunately the majority of America (and many throughout the world) believes; that Muslims are Democracy-hating/women-enslaving/greed-driven fundamentalists (even if it’s true of the Saudi government! ;)

A classy, attractive and intellegent lady with a well- rounded education. She’s an asset to BBCworld’s tv news. Her and her station’s qualities are in complete contrast to the lowest-common-denominator North American broadcast media approach. The BBC actually assumes that its audiences have some modicum of intellegence! When will for-profit CNN/NBC/ABC/CTV Fox etc ever learn? Also, CNN’s international tv station in London UK is more akin to BBC quality in terms of assuming that its audiences are nor culturally deprived urban hicks and boors who accept being interrupted by crass commercials every 3 minutes.

Just thought you guys know, since I live between London and Washington, I see BBC News in the UK. Mishal Husain is now presenting BREAKFAST, which is the BBC’s morning news show. I dont think the move is permanent - they call it an attachment.

Last winter, she announced in a Toronto interview that she was getting married… and by the way, she likes ‘Friends.’

I expect her husband and her have decided to live in London. I thought she was going to cover the US election — I was wrong. But she clearly dug being out on the road covering US politics. Plus, she’s actually a better interviewer than that Katy Kay, cute as she is. She hits harder than, say, Dan Rather or Ted Koppel. And is generally better informed.

COME BACK, MISHAL!!!!

She is still doing HardTalk Extra (entertainment interviews) — but she is very, very pregnant, according to my friends in London, where she does appear on Breakfast still, but only occasionally.

I expect she will go on mat leave soon.
