I’m also a U.S. citizen living for many years in Canada. As Ray wrote, it is a significant decision to renounce one’s citizenship. Does the current U.S. administration and their un-democratic actions have a role in your decision ?

Wow! Congratulations on making such a momentous decision - hopefully it will work out the way you wish.

I have friends living in Almonte who came north (from New Jersey) near the end of Trump’s first term. They recently became permanent residents and are now dual citizens. For the moment, they are not considering renouncing but I wouldn’t be surprised if they ultimately decided to do so (despite the cost and aggravation).
