Lyon DIY

Peter Rukavina

Within a few blocks of our Lyon apartment: Couture Shop, where you can learn to sew, guided by a professional, and Bricole Social Club, an “associative and participatory DIY workshop” that suggests we “imagine the place as a huge Swiss army knife at the service of the inhabitants of the Guillotière district and beyond.”

Our time in Lyon is far too short: I can imagine happily visiting for weeks, if not living here for a time.

I lived in Lyon for 9 months after university while teaching English. It was an amazing experience and I was lucky to live in an "auberge espagnole" situation for cheap in a school near Place des Minimes. Hoping I can keep my French skills polished enough to return for a stretch some day in the future.

We had a similar impression of Lyon when we stayed a few days years ago: we could easily spend a month or more.

It sounds like Lyon should be next on our list - we visited Nice last week, and Toulouse a few years before. Having grown up with Normandy and Brittany on our doorstep, I love how the south of France is the same France... but different.
