The cut was bad enough that I decided to rest by the window until I was sure the bleeding had stopped. The only thing left to eat was capers and smoked salmon. I ate all of it and was overcome with thirst. The dishes were done but the showers came so we played "Elbows on the table," an old family game no one else plays. I was still thirsty but the water tasted funny. Olivia had brought along some sparking water. I don't like it much either, nothing against Michael Buble, so as I sat thinking about the problem, I used it to make tea. The rain passed so we went outside for a walk. Spruce cones, loosened by the strong winds, littered the ground with random plants, gone to seed, poked up through. I picked one. To rub salt in the wound, I was allergic to the little plant. I made a toast to nature, took some unnatural but effective allergy meds and kept my distance from that plant thereafter.
