Liquor and Stickers and Strawberry Moons

Peter Rukavina

Charlie Hickey’s Ten Feet Tall is my song of the season, and not only because I’m in the strawberry moon business.

Among other things, it’s prompted several conversations between me and Oliver about the ways in which liquor, stickers, and strawberry moons can (or cannot) be the solution to all that ails.

The song is also a testament to the truth that adding a bit of Phoebe Bridgers to anything makes it better.

It seems my song of summer is much more of a throwback. I have had Top of the World by The Carpenters in my head. I think it struck me because I have been trying to come up with a lullaby song for my new (first) grandchild, born in March. For the youngest two or three of my own children, I went country with Neon Moon by Brooks and Dunn. Not the best choice for lyrics but a nice calming melody. But Karen Carpenter had a hypnotizing voice.
