Corney's Shoe Store

Peter Rukavina

Under cover of pandemic darkness, Corney’s Shoe Store on Queen Street pulled up stakes. Inside has been stripped back to the brick, not a shoe to be seen.

It's weird walking by the store. One day they are selling shoes and then poof, empty. Another part of my 60 year life history gone. I dropped in a week before they closed to see if I could get a good deal on shoes. Alas its hard to find size 14.

Yesterday I walked up Grafton and it looked like the stock and shelving units of Island Beach Company were being loaded into a van.

The Corney's Shoe closing has been in the works for some time. I think Covid19 may have prompted the abrupt end to the closing out sale, but was not the cause. The building already had changed hands.
