NameProtect

This robot came calling here yesterday. Apparently NameProtect is a “Digital Brand Asset Management company.” Hmmm.

What is it? Looking for links to MP3s, etc. on behalf of media companies?

The NPBot works for NameProtect.com, which sells an intellectual property protection service. The bot is looking for copyright infringement. I do not provide bandwidth for this purpose any more than I maintain a telephone line as an inbound marketing channel.

I made the call about a week ago. So far the NPBot is respecting this, at least in cases where it self-identifies:

User-agent: NPBot
Disallow: /

It’s going to take something a little stronger to block the DTS Agent, spambot minion of a truly nefarious email address harvester:

Time for a UNIX box: this is a job for .htaccess
