Who are you?

Although it’s hard to get really accurate information, the logs suggest that some two or three hundred people stop by here every day. Sometimes you are return visitors, sometimes you are looking for information on Tim Horton’s coffee secrets.

As I’ve spent much of the past week developing online reader survey systems for a client, I’ve become curious about you the readership. Some of you I know because I’m related to you, others are friends from Charlottetown and beyond. Still others I “know” only through what you’ve written here.

A year ago, I had a sort of “reader survey poll” here, but the results, in their anonymous numericalness, were unsatisfying.

So a humble request, dear readers: would you mind taking a minute to tell me some brief snippet about yourselves? Just click on the DISCUSS link at the bottom of this note, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and type me a few words. Nothing complex or involved required — just give me an idea of who and where you are.

Peter — I was trying to find the Bass River site and happened upon your site so thought I’d drop in. You may remember me as I worked for PEI tourism and the CP for many years. Living outside Ottawa and we do come home every summer. I am going to bookmark you — good island info. I also like Waldron Leard’s daily pic of eastern PEI — have you looked at it? Does make me homesick. People in Ontario are, frankly, a bit off. (Sorry if you’re from here but then you have made the leap.)

Take care — Lori

Great post re: how podcasting works! [Ray Slakinski (iPodderX) and Michael Geoghegan (author: Podcast Solutions) were just here at the station (G4TechTV) talking podcasting — can’t wait to try out iPodderX 3.]

Hope to drop by your offices when I’m back “on Island” at the end of June ;).

Hello from New Zealand. My wife found your bloggage while surfing articles on Lindee Climo. The various comments on what makes an art community tick and what is art really fold nicely into our local scene here. We used to live down Murray River way and miss PEI when the McCains ads come on. We also miss lobster suppers and mud season. I’m developing a film which would fall fairly well in the Anne genre so I’ve been looking at the world wide recognition of Anne of Green Gables. Cheers.

Found you blog while trying to solve my scanning problem with the hp 2355. Since I upgraded to Tiger, first I lost my wireless printing, then got it back but have’t been able to scan at all. It doesn’t see it. Hope you find something that can help me…

Peter, I’ve been lurking on your blog for a while now and I do enjoy your blog a lot. Also a way great way to keep up with what’s happening now that I’m a country boy again!

The other day I decided to make the attempt a blog myself. As a visual artist I’m not sure how interesting it’ll be but you can be sure I’ll be the one who really does “prattle on”…

Used to hear your brother Steve on CBC Saskatchewan all the time. Now only the occasional item from MTL. I thought you set him up with a nice weblog several years ago, and was sad to see it get phased out.

Anyway, I just linked to your item about Dick Gordon.

Cheers from Regins.

Great site so far. I’ve logged in and checked up often. This morning, my wife sent me the link for thebus.ca and I had to write and say “neat idea, great job”.

Who am I? I’ll try my best to fill in the answers: Civil servant, architectural designer, father, “Fantasy wedding” guy, award winning presentation model-builder, all around geek, and to follow in a thread among other “Who am I’s”, I walked past silverorange a couple times last week.

Hi Peter ~ Stumbled into your site while researching(read: drifting around in my own thoughts and those of others) an article. Was an art director, pr gal and wrote copy in TO for many years ~ have been living on the Island for the last 15 or so. Really enjoying your site ~ one of the best blogs I have browsed, intentionally or otherwise. Congrats on a first rate job ~ wonderful work and an absolute treat to visit. Cheers, Suzanne

I am almost certain I first came across ruk.ca after typing “Formosa” into the Google search box. I am in my first year at UPEI and have been a regular visitor for a while now. A couple months after first discovering your blog and putting the pieces together of silverorange and reinvented, I was ironically treated to an engaging spiel by Dan James in one of my classes. Reading your posts and taking in your opinions is interesting, entertaining, and for someone only 18 and a somewhat amateur at life, eye opening and enlightening. (Alliteration unintended) So, thanks!

Hi Peter,
I spend summers at St. Peter’s Harbour and live in Burlington, Vermont, the rest of the year. I love reading your blog to get a sense of one slice of the island during the rest of the year. I also enjoyed your description of meals at a Montpelier restauranat recently.
Thanks.

Hey,
My friend Jill was the person who told me about your blog. I’m not positive if you know (remember) me or not, I’m Steven’s little brother. I believe I shot you a few times (and vice versa) when we went paintballing for his bachelor party. I’m not really sure what else to say other than that I’ve added your site to my daily routine of blog reading.

Hey,
I actually came upon your blog looking up Charlottetown in Technorati. I lived in Charlottetown for 12 years and finished up high school at the Gray, but I moved to Ontario for university last year. While I haven’t had a chance to read much of your blog yet, I’m definitely bookmarking it. It’s nice to get a sense of what’s going on in Charlottetown, and from somewhat of a technological perspective to boot. (Comp Eng at UWaterloo) Keep up the great writing. :)

Found your site after googling “Montague” and “D Thompson”. I believe we have met maybe once or twice. Our children go to the same daycare and Steven from Silverorage is my brother-in-law. I’ve only heard good things about your site, and plan to make daily drop-ins part of my routine. Take care, may see you soon.

PS. to anyone: Any ideas on where I could find D Thompson, lived in Kings County about 10 years ago, may have relocated?

My mother was born in PEI and my Uncle has a farm East of Mount Stewart. Most summers when I was young began with a long(3 day) car ride from Montreal to my uncle’s farm. My father would take his 2 week vacation on the island then head back up to Quebec and leave us 4 children and my Mom to spend two months of adventure and getting into various levels of trouble trying to ride farm machinery and upset farm animals. During the next 50 years as I grew older, memories of those summers bring me a sense of hapiness and peace. Now when I manage to get down to the island to visit my aging uncle and I once again step on that rich red clay I think to myself “I’m home”. See you at the Ol Dublin the next time I’m in town!!!!

Hi Peter,
I call Charlottetown home and I’m currently a university student at McGill. I’m also a big fan of the site, and in particular your take on island matters. You speak with an unfettered sort of sincerity and honesty which is refreshing. I should very much like to meet on someday.

PS, I really liked the 1990s CBC interview you posted regarding the future of CD-ROMs. You predicted the internet would become more and more useful, citing examples of online encyclopedias being much more broad than any CD encyclopedia could be. The panel dissented, and well, you have great foresight!
All the best.
