Our Big Tree

Peter Rukavina

The barricades went up on Monday morning around the parking spots in front of our house, and there were tree surgeon types scouting around, so we knew something was up.  We feared the worst, but it turns out that the giant tree (and it is giant) in front of our house was simply due for a trim.

Do any of those branches hang over your house? We had a few big trees blow over here last weekend and living in Raleigh we heard of people being killed in their homes by falling trees, so suddenly seeing that one looming so large over your house sent a chill down my spine. It would be nice if you’ve got real “tree surgeons” looking after it. My first guess would have been they’re power line crew and just concerned about clearing the way.

I was somewhat reassured by the fact that their truck said something like “The Branch Plant” on the side.  Surely they wouldn’t let fake tree surgeons have a truck like that?

Couldn’t “Branch Plant” be what they call your local electrical generating or relay station? I’m sure I’ve seen the job title “Branch Plant Manager” in want ads, and I don’t think they had to do with trees.
