Destina

You gotta hand it to Destina, Air Canada’s new online travel agency, for having the creativity (and the gall) to list the following special offers in this week’s version of their online travel newsletter:

  • Charlottetown to Grand Cayman Island
  • Saskatoon to Bangkok
  • Kamploops to Bali
  • St. John’s, NF to Cancun
  • Moncton to Antigua
  • Victoria to Singapore
  • Regina to St. Lucia
Note that Kamploops appears to be spelled incorrectly, which doesn’t inspirse much faith in Destina. Imagine forking out the $1,635 for a ticket, only to find that, no, you’re not leaving from Kamloops, you’re leaving from Kamploops.

Which also makes me wonder: just how many tickets does Destina expect to sell on the busy Kamloops to Bali route (to say nothing of the Saskatoon to Bangkok)?

In an attempt to compare prices as provided by George Stewart at Admiral Travel Destina tells me, “Please review the marked fields below :

”- The itinerary selected is too complex to book online. Please call customer care, or simplify your itinerary by reducing the number of carriers or passenger types.

Outbound Flight: From Charlottetown, Charlottetown, PE, Canada to Sydney, Australia”

I used Expedia to get 4 to Scotland for 2600.00. Air Canada’s phone ticket agent could not find its own child fare discount of 20%. Admiral Travel looked all day and then told me to go with Expedia. I had told them I had the 2600.00 and they were good enough to spent the time to see if they could match it.

I remember a story in the news when I was, I’d guess, highschool, about a guy in the states who ended up accidentally in New Zealand while headed to Oakland, California. He got on a plane to Aukland.
