I agree a great Canadian has died - I do not know of any other Senator with similar tenacity who went on a hunger strike to protect a favourite program for Canadian youth -Katimivik and he also helped found Canada World Youth. I had the pleasure of spending time with him a few years ago and he was a tour de force —and his history with Trudeau and many others was very visionary. He credits his interest in promoting cross cultural understanding among Canadian youth (both within anglophone-francophone youth as well as Canadian-international youth) with his formative time spent at St. Dunstan’s College in Charlottetown as a young 16 year old francophone who had not before lived outside Quebec.
