1:32 p.m. in Downtown Charlottetown

At the risk of inciting the kind of violence I did 5 years ago, I point out that Daylight Savings Time ended on Sunday morning.

Is a clock really a clock if it doesn't have the right time?

I had a discussion about this on Monday evening with your councillor. According to her inquiries about this issue last year, adjusting our town clock is not a simple process. I have no idea why. While we were standing under the clock, we also took the opportunity to gripe about the crossing signal on Kent/Queen, which I know is a peeve of yours too. Sometimes it’s most difficult making the little things happen at city hall.

On the website at Electric Time, maker of the clock, is a description of what I assume is the Charlottetown clock’s controller, the “Type 99B Clock Controller.”

The description says that the controller “Automatically resets clocks for daylight savings time (if required).”

Is ours broken, misconfigured, or do we not have this option installed?

Full explanation provided by Electric Time in an email this afternoon:

The DST adjustment is automatic, but congress changed the law effective 2007, so in the spring we instructed you to disable the automatic DST in your clock controller. [You have] ordered the update, and the parts will be there soon, so
next year you should be all set.

(although I didn’t suggest so, they seem to assume that I work for the City, hence “you,” etc.)

Kudos to the Electric Time folks for quick turnaround on this.
