Metro Credit Union Website Down

The Metro Credit Union website is down, meaning that web-based banking is down too. They’re “aware of the problem” and it’s being “worked on.” This is the first time I can ever remember the site going offline; its absence reminds me how it’s increasingly my primary interface to my money.

We used the Metro Credit Union website for the majority of our baking until they recently changed their site and made it impossible for people on dial up to use. I timed it one day and it took 35 minutes just to get into my account — I didn’t even get a transaction completed. (I could have driven into Ch’town in less time). When I called tech support, I was told that I had to get high speed internet. I told him that I would gladly get high speed if it were avaible where I live. I then called the local branch. They were very nice, but said there was nothing they could do about it. Very frustrating!

So ISN, if you are listening, we need high speed internet in DESABLE!

Sandy, take a look at Rogers Yahoo Portable Internet Coverage Maps — it looks like their coverage area might include your place, depending on your elevation and whether you use an indoor or outdoor modem. I have a friend in Hampshire who’s using this, and at last report it’s working well for him.

The Credit Union is back online now.

Oops, I spoke too soon: you can get at the Metro Credit Union website now, but you cannot actually login to online banking — a timeout error results if you try. Sigh.

I checked out the site, Peter. As far as I can tell, there is no coverage in Desable (although I got frustrated because it was taking so long!)

Thanks for the tip on Rogers Portable Internet. My location on N. Shore Queens County is ‘just’ in the dead zone on the coverage map. Despite that, I installed the Outside Subscriber Unit yesterday, knowing there is a 30 day return policy if it does not work. 24 hours later and I am still amazed at the performance.
