Searching American Airlines for flights from Halifax to New York I assumed they flew into Newark, so that’s what I searched for. Turns out that they can get me to Newark, but only by flying from Halifax to LaGuardia, then LaGuardia to O’Hare in Chicago, and then back to Newark:
In the non-insane world, LaGuardia and Newark are 43 minutes apart by car. In the bizarro world of American Airlines, things are a little more complex.

Most New Yorkers, especially the highfalutin’ ones, would take a car, a bus or taxi from JFK to Newark. Trying to fly is analogous to flying from Charlottetown to Summerside, on the Concorde.
Try Continental, which is the airline that works for you.

Here’s the thing about being highfalutin: anyone from New York, or, for that matter, anyone from almost anywhere, is assumed to be highfalutin when they arrive on PEI.
Extra special doses of humbleness must be applied to overcome this, and even then it is almost impossible.
I speak from some authority on this: when I showed up I was a 26 year old keener coming to show Islanders the wonders of the modern technology; I was the poster child for the highfalutin movement.
In the absence of any reliable way out of highfalutiness, the best approach is to wear the badge proudly, perhaps with a dose of wry irony.
I also recommend reading archival copies of the Eastern Graphic from the days when Len Russo was a columnist; if anyone had their finger on the nature of highfalutiness on PEI, it was Len.
