It’s no secret that this year’s race between incumbent Clifford Lee and former Mayor Ian ‘Tex’ MacDonald for Charlottetown Mayor is a street fight. But last night saw things reach a new low, with allegations, aired on [[Compass]], that Lee is involved with the nuclear weapons industry. The closed captioning tells the story:

I’m the source, that the CC was a fluke: we had company staying with us the night before, and I didn’t get around to watching Compass until late at night and to avoid waking up the kids staying in the room next door, I turned down the volume and turned on the CC. It was still on yesterday when I watched Compass, and the “nuclear weapson tism” caught my eye so I grabbed my Nokia N70 and grabbed some shots and recorded the video.
It said Nepotism not nuclear

Message to Charlottetown: Here in Cornwall we got a new Mayor without firing a shot! Just a single campaign board. It kicked such perticular ass that no one decided to put one up against it. Now that’s democracy!

i recall reading PEI has over 550 municipal, provincial and federal politicians, elected and appointed, for 138,000 people. Stats Can. projects that PEI schools will have their enrollment reduced by 40% by 2015. Pat Binns appoints his barber to the liquor commission and talks the good talk about improving our environment, cutting taxes for aerospace and biotech (hello Monsanto!) and appointing Clifford Lee to the provincial gov’t (oh, wait, he was hired, wasn’t he?), while our premier in waiting, baby fuzz Robert is trying hard but unsuccessfully to fill his Dad’s size 12 shoes so that he can do more of the same stupid things.
I advocate disbanding the entire provincial gov’t along with its civil service and all municipalities and their lackeys, merge the entire island into the Prince Edward Island Regional Municipality, tack it onto Nova Scotia and give us one, just one really good decent MP and senator and 2 or 3 MLA’s, along with a mayor and about a dozen municipal councillors. Then you’d have elected representation that makes sense.
