Noise Canceling Headphone Reviews

Peter Rukavina

The sound of silenceCNET reviews noise canceling headphones. Cost, including shipping and taxes, of the Bose QuietComfort 2 headphones to Prince Edward Island: $503.

Update: someone upstairs just bought a pair of the QuietComforts for $267 on eBay.

I own a pair of sound canceling headphones, but not Bose. I purchased a pair of Sennheiser headphones. They work really well and were much less expensive. I think I paid $149 US at Circuit City. (I see they are on sale now.) On the plane, ambient noise is greatly reduced, with the ipod music sounds wonderfully rich. The only downside…The ear pads sit on the face of the ear, so when I wear them for an extended period (3-4 hours) my ears ache a bit.

I am a fan of most Bose products. But $399 US for a pair of headphones was just too scary. I was in Target last week and saw the Bose Triport headphones. Although not noise-canceling, I was impressed with how well it reduced ambient noise by virtue of how they fit around the ear, rather than on the ear (the ones I have) or in the ear (the horrible ipod headphones). I would seriously consider these Bose headphones for future headphone purchase.

How much would a CONTROL cone of silence run you? It would have the benefits of a pair of headphones AND you could split the cose with someone.

I have a friend with the same Sennheisers, and he has the same complaint: because they sit *on* the ear, rather than *around*, he finds wearing them for an extended period to be uncomfortable.

I’m the person upstairs who bought a set on eBay for $269 CA. I hope they work well, or it’s going to be a long spring/early summer.

I’ve heard that Logitech have just released a pair. Haven’t tried them personally but I’ve only heard good things about them.
