The Town and Country Falls

Peter Rukavina

Regular readers may recall our last meal at the venerable Town and Country Restaurant back in 2006. In the intervening years the building housed an “asian fusion” restaurant for a time but more often than not has been standing vacant, waiting for someone new to breath life into it.

Unfortunately this never happened, and whoever owned the building decided it was better as an empty lot than a building waiting to be filled, so it fell to the wrecker’s ball over the last several weeks:

This is a real shame. I had the privilege of working there under Louis and Faida when they still owned the restaurant. Then I stayed on until the bitter end under the new owners. I can’t imagine what would be going through the minds of all of us who loved the old T&C as both staff and customers over the course of nearly 45 years. My grandfather, Peter Shelfoon used to go there for coffee all the time even before I was born, so for me there is a kind of family history there as well. Definitely the end of an era!
