Tourist season has begun in earnest and with it comes the bane of all pedestrian Charlottetowners, the four-abreast sidewalk-taker-uppers. Here’s an attempt to illustrate one small slice of this today, as I hurried to catch the bus uptown (do they think we can’t hear them?).

This behaviour's always puzzled me. It never occurs to me to try and take up the whole sidewalk in London, Toronto, etc.. You get the feeling you know what the response would be.
I think it’s easier to treat
I think it’s easier to treat Charlottetown like a theme park, and thus to think of we happy residents as cast members, not people with places to go and people to meet. It’s harder to do this in London or Toronto.

And in all fairness, I find myself getting pushed aside by the locals too. Perhaps I need some assertiveness training.

This behaviour in Toronto if resulting in a shoulder bump might result in some kind of physical altercation. Islanders are far more gentle, with the exception of when they are driving over the bridge when the rough alter ego emerges.
