Dear Peter,

It’s my first full week back in the office after taking much of the summer off. I wanted to return refreshed and inspired. Instead, I am returning tired and scattered (because: Life!). As we explored together in Coach to Thrive, my context right now is below the line. I’d rather it not be so but knowing where I am is where I need to start. I remember that I feel this way right after Labour Day every year. Maybe you do too? And each year, after a few days of accepting myself for feeling behind the eight ball and a few days of diving in to what needs to be done, inspiration and possibility reappear.

It’s hard to admit all this but I prefer candour. And when I bring deep curiosity to times like this, I am able to move through them and get back to being above the line more often.

I hope the skills and practices you learned in Coach to Thrive (see below for reminders)—like shifting to curiosity instead of needing to know all the answers—have you feeling like a more self-accepting and coach-like leader this fall.

We’re offering Coach to Thrive several times again this fall. I truly believe this program helps leaders, managers and professionals be stronger leaders while having an easier time doing so.

I have a request: If you feel the same way, please encourage people in your network to attend. We’ve made it easy: simply click here for a ready-made email to share.

And if I can help you in any way, please reach out.

Lisa

Coach to Thrive prompts:

  • Context: In this now moment, am I above or below the line?
  • Listening: When you drift, listen for what is being said and not said, body language, mood etc.
  • Powerful Questions: Start with “What…” Drop the preamble. Get curious.
  • Curiosity over fixing: “What the real challenge here, for you?”
