September Apple Announcement

Peter Rukavina

A late summer gift from Catherine, who planted apple trees in our back yard many years ago. It’s a great year for apples.

I did the same last Friday with Y., and also pruned our tree (removing the new vertical twigs, and leaving the horizontal ones). Nice to see September chores in sync on both sides of the Atlantic!

The best appointment I made this year was with Gary Schneider, from the Macphail Woods Ecological Forestry Project. Gary came over in the spring to talk to me about our yard and its trees, and taught me a little about pruning. The “remove the vertical and keep the horizontal” was the core of his message.

Apple sauce is brewing as I type!
