What use could it be now? How much data can 640Khz to 1400Khz carry? One would guess about 760Khz, almost a megabit per second. Not a lot of bandwidth really.

This time of year you can get VOCM on the car radio and hear nightly Newfoundland phone-in talk radio, a cultural touchstone. You can also hear all the way to St. Louis to Venezuela to Iceland if the troposphere is willing, Brazil on a fluke. Short distance AM radio is for sissies.
