Please Do Not Sit

Peter Rukavina

This chair, part of an exhibition at the Danish Design Centre, signifies to me everything that is wrong with museums.  I mean, it’s a chair: to understand it you have to sit in it.  Otherwise, what’s the point.

Yes, it’s a bit like when I saw an exhibit of medieval torture devices at the Royal Scottish Museum. I said to myself, “If I don’t get to see some actual limbs being crushed, I don’t think I’m learning anything here”.
