Humanity vs. Efficiency

Peter Rukavina

I don’t understand the role of this Bridging humanity and efficiency video from Health PEI — is it marketing? celebration? politics? education? — but it’s well-produced, and uncommonly clear for health system communications. Dylana Arsenault should be put in charge of talking to the public.

Inside scoop! my understanding (from an arm's length) is that this piece was produced for use at the recent Health PEI AGM as a celebration of a successful new patient flow concept spurred initially by covid needs. It was guided by a Mr Atkinson with whom you'd be familiar and shot at both PCH and QEH. And, yes, Dylana is a rock star.

My guess is it’s PR. Surgical patients expect to receive care until they’re well enough to go home at the hospital at which they were operated on. Well now before that happens you may be told that they’re carting you to possibly just about any other hospital in the province, and you’ll finish your recovery there. This is to prevent surprise and disgruntlement, and to orient future patients to the rationale and advantages of the new practice, even on occasions when those advantages aren’t to them.
