Gus Bodnar, 1923 to 2005

Peter Rukavina

Our cousin Gus Bodnar died Friday. Although we never met, his legendary hockey career loomed large in our family. The Toronto Star described Gus yesterday as “one of the finest gentlemen to pull on a Leafs sweater.”

Just found this web site and was sorry to see that Gus Had passed away. I played for Gus back in 1957/58 when he was coach of the Lakeshore Bruins Jr.B hockey club. We won the Metro JrB championship that year and went all the way to the OHA Jr. B finals. It was a great team with a great coach, he was fun to play for and he took great interest in his players. I spent a great number of hours in Gus’s car as he drove me home from early Sunday morning practices (17 and still without a licence). He was a great guy, a great hockey player and a great coach!
