When we first moved to Charlottetown in 1993 if you asked someone on the street where the nearest sushi place was they’d be as likely to punch you in the face as point you the right way. Seventeen years later, not a week goes by without an “opening soon” sign going up on a new sushi place, and I’d hazard a guess that it will soon be easier to get a California Roll than it will be to get a Shawarma.
For the record, here’s the list of places where you can get sushi in Charlottetown, open now and opening soon:
- Formosa Tea House, 186 Prince Street
- Monsoon, 79 University Avenue
- Tai Chi Gardens, 119 Pownal Street
- Café So-Ban, Charlottetown Mall
- Zen Sushi, 62 Queen Street
- Sushi Express, 193 Kent Street (opening soon)
- Ta-Ke Sushi, 92 Queen Street (opening soon)
- Sushu Jeju, 260 Grafton Street (opening soon)

I confess to never having
I confess to never having understood the appeal of cold, dead, raw fish. But sushi seems to be extremely popular despite my opinion. =)
I love sushi, and the more
I love sushi, and the more options in Charlottetown the better. If anyone needs Sushi Jeju’s phone number it’s 370-5358. They opened on May 21st, I believe.
Oliver and I ate at Sushi
Oliver and I ate at Sushi Jeju last night; very good food, especially the quality of the rice. The only downside, and this is completely personal taste, is that almost everything comes with eggs in it by default, although they happily made an order without for me.
Just tried Ta-Ke Sushi for
Just tried Ta-Ke Sushi for the first time today. I don’t have a single negative comment. Everything was delicious; Love Maki was amazing! Good presentation, nice atmosphere, friendly and clean.
I don’t get what the author
I don’t get what the author is trying to convey.. Charlottetown shouldn’t be “embarrassed” of these new restaurants; she should embrace them. I think whoever wrote this article could move back to wherever they came from. Also, I am going to try sushi for my first time today. Wish me luck!
I meant “embarrassment” only
I meant “embarrassment” only in the sense that we should be embarrassed to have such good fortune. See also embarrassment of riches.
