Tim Hortons Responds

Regular readers will recall that I mentioned my surprise that a Tim Hortons Garden Vegetable Sandwich contains 23 g of fat.  I had been in the habit of ordering this sandwich as a “healthy alternative” without thinking about it (doesn’t garden vegetable sound healthly?).  I sent an email to Tim Hortons, and this is what they wrote me back:

Dear Mr. Rukavina,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding your concerns with the Tim Hortons Garden Vegetable Sandwich.

Tim Hortons has created a Nutrition Guide featuring a cross section of our products.  As you have recently viewed this guide electronically on our website, we hope that you have found the nutritional information useful in helping incorporate Tim Hortons products into your lifestyle.

The Garden Vegetable Sandwich is not advertised as a “healthy alternative” sandwich.  It is prepared with Plain Cream Cheese, Tim Hortons Special Dressing, Cucumber, Tomato and Lettuce.  The total fat content of this sandwich is 23 grams.  The areas of the sandwich in which the fat are located is as follows:

    Plain Cream Cheese, 13.0 grams
    Tims Special Dressing, 9.0 grams
    White Country Bun, 0.5 grams

To lower the total fat of this sandwich, request a sandwich with a Light Cream Cheese and no Tims Special Dressing.

Yours truly,
Consumer Nutrition Co-ordinator
Research & Development

That (a) Tim Hortons would respond at all, (b) they would take my request seriously, and (c) that they have a Consumer Nutrition Co-ordinator are all very heartening things.  Kudos to Tim’s for excellent service.

I’ve never read so many comments that seemed so childish. Just because you had a bad day going to Tim Hortons doesn’t mean you should stop going there because you didn’t get service with a smile. The workers get paid minium wage and owe the customer nothing more than their product. If you buy a coffee and pay for it thats all you get.

Just because you didn’t have a great day doesn’t means you should black list Tim Hortons, if you’re that weak in the mind to let another person ruin your outlook on a store I suggest you consider the real problem being yourself not some girl getting $7.00/h to give you coffee with a big smile and a nice ass lick.

I work at Tim Hortons and I’ve seen so many shitty people come in and bitch about workers. I’ve had to bite my tung more than once, and to be honest we don’t get paid enough to debate rules with you guys and could careless if you didn’t get a roll up the rim cup or if we have lack of muffins left. That’s not our job, thats up to management.

Tim Hortons doesn’t produces a disgusting amount of waste, people do. If some guy buys a loaf of bread and leaves the rapper on the road is that Sobey’s fault? If you buy a Coke Pop and dump the can on the ground whos fault is that?

I’ve never ever seen this amount of bitching people in my life. Half of you expect them to wash your shoes in order to come back and buy more coffee. I suggest you take your attitude to another coffee shop because you will find assholes and bad service everywhere. Good luck in this place call EARTH, gotta love how people expect kindness and perfection when they don’t give it back.

I agree somewhat with the last post. A customer deserves to be treated fairly in an ideal world. The last time I checked though we do not live in an ideal world. We live in a world where the three richest people in the world have more money then the poorest 30 nations. Why is there enough food in the world to feed everyone but yet many die of hunger. It is because of peoples attitude ME FIRST is all you hear these days. It is sad that the color of a persons skin or their background or WHERE THEYT WORK automatically makes them INFERIOR. you know you are all guilty of it looking down on that crazy person whos homelesss in your town..and what do you say in your minds, Get a job! Well theres no way to please you is there because once that person is off the street and have a job you still complain because thier service is not perfect.. A job is a job whether you have a trade or not. So dont walk into tim hortons with the attitude that you are a educated success and these slaves must help u fill your caffein addiction. They are people like you and smileing and being friendly spreads, so whether a worker at tim hortons or a long time customer you each have your role, each cant be filled without the other.

I agree with Dani and with Chris because yes people do dump the garbage on the side of the road but also they are making false statements. Not all of the recycling plants recycle the cups because there is a coding on the cup that makes it very difficult to recycle in standard recycling plants. Tim Hortons does not promote or encourage environmentally friendly behavior unlike Starbucks that has receved many awards for its efforts to prioritize the environment.

Who Rolled up my rim????

Has anyone ever got a cup filled with coffee drank it then discovered someone in the store has already rolled up the rim? I mean stuck there dirty fingers in the cup or perhaps used the teeth to check for a winner. Lots of that going on out there in the eastern ontario franchises.

My two cents on the whole Tim Horton’s deal. I understand the workers are underpaid. I also know the hours some work are unfair. I know you have to deal with ignorant and down right rude customers. We all just say if you don’t like your job then quit. I also know for some people that is not an option. I do have sympathy for the Tim Horton’s employee. I have always been decent when I order and always say thank you when I leave the drive thru…My only little issue is please stir my tea or coffee. I have mentioned it too many times to even count and still drive away pretty well knowing it hasn’t even been stirred. I don’t get it. It may not really be a big deal to some but when you pay the kinda money you do for one of their coffee or tea’s a little effort would be nice.

What is with Tim Horton’s discontinuing the Garden Vegetable Sandwich? In my opinion it was the best sandwich there, not to mention the fact that you can’t get a sandwich like that anywhere else.

You can still order the garden vegetable sandwich. It was removed from the menuboard in order to simplify things, but we still have the ingredients to make one, so just ask.
TH periodically drops the lowest selling items from the menuboards.

To Everyone in Calgary,

First let me start by saying that I have been working for Tim Hortons stores across Canada for approximately 10 years and have essentially built a career with them then today on my second day back to work at the store on 16th Ave and Uxbridge Dr. the store owner “Mark” called me to the office and asked me if I would mind telling him how I had earned approximately $13 in tips, I replied I don’t know perhaps its because I serve my customers with a courteous smile and always repeat their orders and speak in french to my french speaking customers etc… he then said that some girls were lucky to earn $4 in a day in tips and I had $13 so he told me he would put me on sandwich bar until he deemed fit and that “he didnt want me anywhere around his money” Well if I’m not mistaken this sounds to me like he was implying that I was stealing from the till does it not? When I started working for this store in Oct/06 I was told all the girls kept their own tips so I cant see how I was wrong in doing so plus when I brought this fact up to him he did not correct me or tell me things went a different way now. I must say I felt very mistreated and upset at the fact that someone at this store went into my tip cup and counted my tips without my permission so is this not an invasion of my privacy? And if so was I wrong in telling them to shove it?

On Monday I went threw the drive-thru at the Tim Horton’s on Regent Ave in Winnipeg, MB. I ordered a large English Toffee as I usally do about two or three times a day. I handed the girl a $10.00 bill (which she took without out even saying a word to me, which is happening more and more lately). She then handed me $3.22 change. I told her she still owed me $5.00 change. She looked at me and said “Just a minute”. Another employee came to the window and said to me “My manager says that you have two options, 1)you can go park somewhere while she takes about 15 minutes to review the security tape or 2) I could leave leave my name and phone number and if she feels that they owe me $5.00 they will call me to come pick it up.”
WHAT IS THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unhappy with this answer I asked to speak to the manager.
She came to the window with an attitude. Snarked at me that they get ripped off alot. I am sorry that this happens BUT what right do they have to treat people that are honest this way. They were accusing me of trying to rip them off and treating me very baddly for a mistake that they had made.
So unhappily I opted to wait for her to review the tape because I was not leaving without the change that I was owed.
The manager after a while came walking out with a $5.00 dollar bill in hand. Handed it to me and gave a snarky sorry. To which I replyed “That’s it, an insincer sorry”. She then raised her voice at me and said “Well what would you like me to do, we have cars running through hear all the time trying to rip us off.”
My reply was “Well you wont be running me through here any more.”
So this is what I would like her to do. First train your staff how to properly handle cash transactions. Second train your staff to communicate with your customers, not just take money without a word to them “hi” would even work at the very least and then work up to a “thank-you”, maybe. Third take a customer service course herself.

I am a Timmys drive thru regular and have been for years.
I have worked as a server for many years and so Yes I know what dealing with the public is like especially when talking morning coffee.
That said I am really concidering boycotting and making my own coffee.
Lately ( past year or so )at both the Campbell River BC stores the orders are wrong ei sugar when not orderers , the cups leak …A LOT again not staff fault but my cup holder fills up and I get very annoyed. . the coffe sometimes is spilt down the side of the cup as the lids are hardly ever put on tight.
The night shifts have been cancelled several times as there is not enough staff to keep them open and I assume they get the staff trained and then they leave for greener pastures and I dont blame them . Night shifts makes maybe 9.00 an hour and dayshift is min wage . Theydeserve more and the companys make enough to pay more to keep there good employees.
Hats off to the the workers … most of them anyways you are always running your butts of and I see this. I still would like to recieve what I paid for and would like the coffee to stay in my cup.
Also why do you not have the coffee sleaves?
Would they mnot becheaper than double cupping and a lot less waste?
Ok Ivefinished my rant but I am still concidering no more Timmys. that would save me at least 7.00 /day . Can you afford to lose`too many customers . You arent the gas bar and we have other options to fill up

I was extremely disappointed this a.m. when I went through the drive thru at Kennedy and Steeles (Biscayne drive in Brampton) ordered two cheese tea biscuits only to get to my destination and one of them was stale…..it feel apart in as million pieces when I cut it….could have built a house with it — it was that hard. ALWAYS FRESH AT TIM HORTONS? not at this store….and not the first time this has happened here. Go back? who has time…that’s why we use the drive thru. This biscuit should have been removed yesterday and fresh ones ONLY served. I doubt they would serve it inside the store but the drive-thru…we are at their mercy. Doesn’t give Tim Hortons a good name. I won’t stop buying Tim Hortons but this should be addressed. Is the owner trying to save money and are they inspected often?

I have worked at a tim hortons in Saskatoon for eight and a half months. I am currently working there, but feel that they are trying to force me to quit. Approximately, 3 weeks to a month ago I informed the managers at my store that, although I am currently dishwasher/dining room, I would like to go back to working behind the front counter again (as I did the first month to month and a half ) I worked there. I found out from a fellow employee one day, before my shift started that one of the managers and one of the supervisors were laughing at me behind my back. I complained about the supervisor and manager in question and they have made work a living hell for me ever since.

I want all tim hortons customers and employees to know that even though they SAY they follow procedures and rules and regulations, THEY DO NOT AND ARE NOT THE UPSTANDING COMPANY THAT THEY CLAIM TO BE. Look past the training videos and scholarship programs, it’s ALL bogus. I work for a meager $8.10 an hour and am a VERY hard worker. The next time u sit in a tim hortons watch what is going on behing the counter. Imagine working there and having supervisors laugh behind your back when you are trying to make a better life as a single parent for you and your children! By the way, you should hear what they are saying about you when you get your order after waiting at least half an hour in line and DARE to have a bit of attitude! How dare you complain! I needed to let someone know and vent as I am soooo frustrated and cannot quit because I have children to feed and house!! Please be patient with the employee who apologizes profusely for having a hard time with the till, as he probably was just thrown on the till and then was hollered at by a supervisor for taking so long to get through the lineup. I eneded up walking out lastnight 2 hours into my eight hour shift after being yelled at by the supervisor in question in front of fellow employees. Which by the way, is against company policy. The company procedure is to take the employee aside and talk to them. I am definitely not the type to walk out but she got very close and threatening while yelling. I felt the best thing to do was to leave until I could reach a manager the next morning. I did so and they defended her. It is simply my word against hers. There was another supervisor behind me and cameras all over the place but still they all stand behind her. I am not a quitter, but tim hortons could easily change that in the future. Just so you know, not capitalizing the name tim hortons was done intentionally. Mr. Horton would surely roll over in his grave if he now how his name was attached to this poor excuse of a company! Thanx for letting me vent!

I am here once again voicing my opinion on this whole tim hortons thing.
Yes i am a timmies girl, infact i am a timmies night girl 11pm till 7am and i love my shift. however it does get very stressfull, I have grown a very thick new skin, and an amazing back bone which i have used again and again, and i was very happy that the boys in blue showed the other night when i needed them to come. Thanks.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We try, I try very hard to make your coffee right, i myself am a coffee drinker, and when i don’t get my coffee just right it doesn’t make me very happy either, but becuase i am on the other side of the counter i know how hard it is.
As for the sugar being wrong in your coffee it not only be the falut of the coffee girl who just doesn’t care or she missunderstood you. some of my regulars it took me a while to understnad what the hell they were saying,
also do you know how the sugar and cream come out of the machine it is not like at home you add by pouring or by spooon full, it is in a machine and if it is not colaberated just right it does make it off,
The staleness of our product, let me explane somethig to you
Our baker, well one of them just got introuble for this.
Read very carefully i am not writing it wrong this is what she got in troube for.
Not having enough to thorw out.
yes you heard me right she got introuble becuse there is tooo little waste. it took me a while to get this into my head.
there is a % of what need to be thrown out at the end of the day, and when there is too few yes too few product to go in the garbage, the bakers get in trouble.
Can you belive it.
sorry you are not making enough, there is NOT enough stuff going in the garbage.
also for the stalle nes of your product is it a 25 hour store like ours is. we have a time line that we have to follow it is a must like washing our hands you just have to do it. ( god i hope everyone washes their hands i do like a million times a day). we are not alowed to bring out the new product untill a certain time, each product has a time bagles are 8 hours cookies are 12 horus bread is 8 hours etc. if you got it just at the end then sorry yes i can be stale, however we do toss the old ones or that is what we take home to feed our familys with.
I don’t feed my kids day old donuts but i don’t need to by bread after 8 hours a bun is still good. i bring it home, after 8 hours a bagle is still good and i bring that home.
after 8 hours a muffin is still good and i bring them home too.
this job sometimes sucks A@@ but we do it.
we put on the big smile,
bad things happen to timmies girls too.
we have family memembers that die, animals that die, bosses that yell at us. stress from work and home.
last weekend while i was working one of my animals died. i stayed and smiled and worked on.
This weekend while i was working my friends house was on fire.
I stayed and i smiled and poured you your coffee.
why is it that you as a customer can be as nasty and bitchy as you want, my husband left me. so i am going to take it out on the local timmies girl, but us behind the counter our husbands leave us too.
our kids are sick too.
we lose our babies to war too.
we are ppl in really bad made uniforms that are very uncomforable to wear.
We are ppl who’s heart breaks, who’s familys and children and friends go threw the same things that you do, we smile and go on and listen to you yell at us becuase we made your coffee wrong,
were are real people were are not robots, i don’t understand why ppl don’t understand that.
we are doing our jobs as best as we can with the training that we are given, for one day i would love to switch jobs with you,
you can see my pain and i can see yours.
or maybe it is a money thing with most ppl.
oohhh see that timmies girl right there. eventhough she is busting her A@@ for 9.20 an hour we can treat her like shit becuase we are piolets and we make wayyy more money.
Another thing i don’t understand, why do ppl treat ppl who touch there food like shit.
WE TOUCH YOUR FOOD.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
why don’t ppl remember that.
I am just wondering, if you go to the dentist do you get mad and call him/her names when you have a cavity, is it their fautl?
If you go shopping for food, and the price of milk is up do you yell at the cashier for it.
Your car is dirty Do you Call 911 and yell at the Police, no why
it is not the dentist falut that you don’t brush your teeth, it is not the cashiers fault that the price of milk went up and it is not the police responibility to make sure your car is clean.
We have a job to do.
we clean the place.
we pour the coffee.
we make your food.
we do what our bosses tell us to do.
about 75% of my customers treat me like a pile of shit.
I would love to find out where they work and fucking freak out on them. the other 25% of my customers that i LOVE have to deal with assholes like you who come and expect us to be perfect.
I would love to come and live in your world, where you are the only customer. where the coffee shop that you go to never ever messes up your coffee.
where your job is so perfect that ever single one of your customers or clients are happy and perfect..
Maybe you just like comming to our little hell whole so that when you go back to your perfect life it is just that much more special for you.
It must be nice having a perfect life where if your coffee is made wrong you must go and boycote a coffee house.
I have children. they need to eat too.
they need school suplies
they need clothes
they need to go to the doctors.
i try as hard as i can, i need my job, i am doing the best i can with what i am given.

I started FT at Timmies just a few short months ago in hopes of getting benefits. Being a single Mom it was easy to get hired. I have never been let go from any job in my life until now. The Manager demeaned me in front of other employees and customers constantly. My business was discussed with other employees after I obtained another job to make ends meet and the Mgr made it clear they would not work around those hrs. but never told me as I heard from another girl. If I made a mistake with anything she certainly made it known but she made many errors also but no one would say anything to her. Her favorite employees could make mistakes and nothing ever said. I was 4 days short of my 90 days and got the “call” they were not keeping me on. There were too many secondary jobs to do during the day and not enough staff to do counter and drive through. Noon on a holiday weekend requires more than 2 girls while she sits in her office and refuses to answer requests for change for registers. When she does, makes it sound like it is my fault. She was overheard telling another girl she could start on such a date and I saw the smile on her face on that call. Could be a friend but not certain and she wanted the newbies gone. I know I was wasting my talent there but it was fast money for a time and complaining about anything was a dead end. You either live with it or they get rid of you, it’s that simple. It’s a real shame she will treat other good people in a demeaning way and get away with it. I did try to have a smile for every customer considering my treatment and was complimented by customers on my warm inviting smile when they came in. I ran my butt off serving them to the best of my ability, carried food/drinks for the eldery and disabled to tables and people in line understood the minute extra wait. I can say I always tried to go the extra mile but Management never saw that, just the mistakes. Customer service has changed over the years for the almighty dollar. It is a sad thing.

I am very sorry to hear what happend to you.
I myslef do go the extra mile and take food to the tables for the elderly expected mothers, old, etc,
And it is true that managment doesn’t see the extra mile that we do.
There has been times where i have done things i not normaly do. to help out, or stay an extra few hours because the next shift was short handed, and it breaks my heart that no one noticed, or notices, Thank you, i wanted to say thank you for the things that you have done.
I bet no one from timmies has said that.
On behalf of the timmies employees who don’t get a Thank you,
I am saying Thank you for going the extra mile, we do apreciate it even if managment doesnt’

To everyone who complains they are only making $8/hour — get real! You are pouring coffee: this job does not require higher education!

Try paying $50,000 for a university education and your starting wage is $18 — we make $10 more an hour than you, explain that to me! If you want a better paying job you have to work for it and slinging coffee isn’t exactly work in my opinion.

I also love the fact that the majority of the people on here making comments are all negative: people comment just to say negative things.
They think the world is injustice and they should get something for free, well guess what, nothing is for free. As if you don’t have anything better to do than to write to head office complaining your coffee tab doesn’t stick — they don’t care!

As for litter — TH does have a recycling program in place. Litter is caused by LAZY *** ppl who can’t be bothered to throw their cup in the garbage can 3 ft away from them. EXPLAIN TO ME HOW THAT IS TH FAULT???!!!!
The cups are actually recyclable in certain cities. It is up to the CITY NOT TH where they can recycle cups.

Although I agree with some of your comments regarding the negative posts, I must take issue with your statement that “slinging coffee” isn’t work.
There may be many reasons why a person works at Tim Hortons, or any food establishment, but do not assume that this is not hard work. You may think of it as just pouring coffee, but take the time to watch some time. These people are on their feet 8 hours a day, serving customers, preparing food, cleaning, doing dishes, stocking and refilling the supplies, many times at an extremely quick pace. They are up and down ladders, bending and stretching, and lifting heavy items.
Not everyone can or wants to go to college or university. They do not deserve to be belittled because of it.

Ok first of all. I happen to have Two college diplomas hanging on my wall. I also have the $50,000 education that you have. well i am sorry that ppl like me sling your coffee,
I am sorry that you only make a few dollars more then i do. (btw i make a bit more then 8 buck an hour).
For one, the jobs that i can have don’t give me medical and dental like TH does.
and second if there wasn’t any coffee slingers there for ppl to yell at. then you would go with out coffee.
you think my job is easy. try having a night like i did last night, and lets see who is the lazy person.
Why don’t you just make your own fucking coffee then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CURRENT EMPLOYEE on June 6, 2007 - 03:36 Permalink

One thing I would like to say is that where I work, the Tim Hortons in Arnprior (the larger, newly renovated store), I have a blast. Everyone needs are considered closely, the Open Door Policy actually WORKS, and when we have a serious issue, or District Manager does something about it.

And about the “slinging coffee” comment. It’s so true what Crashkattie said.

Just because it only appears as “just making coffee”, it’s so much more then that.

Especially on drive-thru. When you have to get customers orders taken, prepared, and served in under 45 seconds, while ensuring everything is correct, it can be stressful. I’m coffee maker for drive thru, and it’s insane. You’re making coffees as fast as you can, making sure to stir them, label the lids, making sure you’re constantly brewing coffee, making sure you’re stocked up in everything…along with many other things. It can get fairly hard. Luckily, I work with an amazing group of people who are more than happy to help out.

But working at Tim Hortons is more then just “making coffee”. So, when the next person says that, I going to imagine they work at an office. So, when you sign that paper, and just sit in your chair for 6 or 7 hours after, tapping your pen on your desk, you tell me what hard work really is.

It’s people like you I hate serving. The ones who have no respect for the people who are just trying to make you happy. In the morning, afternoon, and evening. By making sure everything is right just for you.

So we screw up. We may be Tim Hortons. But we’re also human. Keep that in mind. I’m sorry that I might accidentally hand you a large double double coffee, rather then the large steeped tea you ordered. Just let me know, I’ll say I’m really sorry about the mistake, and then whip you up what it was you ordered asap. People make mistakes.

It’s just that people like you need to learn how to forgive.

Current Employee,
I so wish ppl would learn how to forgive.
I also wish that ppl would also learn the term “we have the right to refuse service”.

Hi I am retired Canadian government worker. This is a comment to the guy who belittled every employee who works in the TH stores across North America. First of all I am a university graduate I held a very good position with the Government of Canada and I have seen the bulk of lazy-ass workers who are overpaid useless complaining babies. You sir are one of these over paid babies. This country was built on and is sustained by the blue collared working class immigrants who probably have 3 times more education than you but unfortunately cannot practice their trade in Canada since their education is non transferable. You have been so shallow as to make yourself the victim since you spent a few dollars in a university and only make $18 per hour. I wish I knew what you do for a living because if you were smart you would not belittle others only because they make less money than you and they work in a different discipline than you. I think you should reconsider your attitude towards your fellow citizens and thank them for helping in keeping this country great and from keeping this country from economic turmoil. These people are the backbone to our successful country and without them you would not have a university to go to and a $18 dollar an hour job to go to.
I would like to say thank-you to all Tim Hortons workers who have brought me my coffee every morning for many years.

Thank you. Thank you so much. because of ppl like you our world is better and ppl have respect.
Thank you for your respect. If you lived in my town i would make sure that you never have to go without your morning coffee again.

well, I am applying soon for a job at Tim Hortons in courtenay, i’m 16, i don’t smoke or buy a bunch of beer, I am a hard worker and I need money to buy a car so I can simply get out of the house without being guilted in some way shape or form, sooo just so those of you who commented about young workers being hired, not all teenagers are drunken gong shows who talk about make-up, boys, and shopping, or on the other end of the spectrum talk about beaking it out on video games all day. enjoy your lives! I think I will tip at Timmy’s from now on…

Hey I have been working at Tim Hortons in Espanola for 3 years now. Since I was 15 years old. It’s has been my first and only job so I can’t say that I’ve had other work environments, but so far it’s terrible there. For students anyways. They treat us like- for lack of a better word- shit. And about this storefront workers cleaning the bathrooms, garbages, and getting on our hands and knees to scrub the corners, then to serve a customer. This is barbaric. Don’t get me wrong I’m a hard, and good worker, and many would back me up on that comment, but does nobody else see a problem with these jobs? Shouldn’t there be a designated person to do the “dirty jobs”. Oh and what about me working there for 3 years and somebody could start tomorrow and make the same amount that I do… Oh and since I’m only a student my benefits consist of an entra $50.00 at Christmas time. WOO WHO! ~not~. Like I said, I have no experience to compair this to, but I definatly, and I speak for more than just myself, can say treatment is unfair there.

APPLYINGSOON on June 29, 2007 - 17:10 Permalink

Ryan, and I am not the type of person that just doesn’t show up for a job, They need staff and I need full time work for transportation in the fall, because my mom is too busy to take me and my little sister to school and I can’t get a bus where I live, my older sister is now moving out, so she is no longer able to drive us. And as for the taking things personally thing… I have a hard time believing that a customer could make me cry, I play rugby, there is so much talk on the field, I am used to it.

APPLYINGSOON on June 29, 2007 - 17:15 Permalink

Oh and Espanola,
I am only 16, my first job was at a cadet camp.. I had to mop there giant halls three times a day, and clean up after bratty cadets who took a hobby of pissing the workers off… my FAVORITE job was cleaning the bathrooms, I actually lost weight working there because it was such hard work… and they served us the fattiest lunches too so it wasen’t my eating that had anything to do with it. Tim Hortons will be a piece of cake for me in comparison.

Hope you get the Job Applying soon, I to work at Ryan, I won’t meet you though i work nights,
As for me crying from a customer it is hard not too. when you have to put up with abuse everyday, a persons physcy can only take so much before they snap. on top of the drunks the crack head the ppl comming down off of god knows what, the hookers the pimps, you can only take so much.
Night is so much diffrent then the day, you get grumpy ppl but nothing like what happend at night.
I hope you get the job and i hope you like it and i hope that Timmies will be a piece of cake for you.
Sorry have to laugh at that one. work there for a month and then tell me how easy it is.
Imagain all the things you had to do at cadet camp, now add on giveing food for 200 ppl on top of that, your boss breathing down your neck and ppl yelling at you because you are going to slow.
aaahhh to be 16 and have the whole world not crushed your spirits yet. to think you can do anything you put your mind to.
God i miss those days.

APPLYINGSOON on July 2, 2007 - 05:37 Permalink

Thank You for the good wishes.
In response to that last note, at the cadet camp I had to give food for 300 people for three meals a day. Not only were there cadets, there were also special services from ontario and they are spoiled eaters, they came to me to complain about food I didn’t have anything to do with, I didn’t say it would be a piece of cake… I said it would be a piece of cake in comparison, a vast difference, because I still believe I will be working my ass off… and I know I can’t do anything I put my mind to, I just do the best I can and then accept my limits. It’s hard for me to be steriotyped down into the category “16 year old kid” because I am more responsible and understanding of life than people my age, I have a dad who tells me his whole world of problems and gives me hours of life stories and lessons, and I have been educated that the world isn’t easy and you can’t do everything you put your mind to. I only wish that teenagers didn’t have the reputation of being “stupid”, because my age and my looks put me right into that generalization. Thanks again for voicing your opinion, I do hope you find an outlet to rediscover some youth! May all your future prospects be good!

im quite surprised by the comments. I work @ timmys and im 14 and i love it there. my supervisors are super nice and i actually dont get paid minumum. here in alberta its $7 but i get paid $8 not a big differnce i no but still not minumum wage. Time hortons across canada is different. It could be because of the number of employees the employer. And im not sure about the other tim hortons but in my tim hortons u can get w/e u want for free except for the hardwares and tins of coffee. I personally think its awesome working there. As long as u work for 8 hours u get 2 15 minute breaks. And most of my co-workers are teens but they work usually harder than the adults, and yes WE KNOW THE PRICES OF COFFEE/DONUTS/TIMBITS BY HEART!!! so not all of us all stupid and retarded. as for the freshness of the product the coffee is always fresh from 7-3 so i suggest u go around that time(but its pretty busy) and around 3-10 its not that fresh (depending on where u go of course. some ppl dump it out, but sum dont) The bathrooms @ my tim hortons are very clean. Ok i have to say most costomers are nice, BUT there are sum bichs out there that just cant control themselves. when it was my second shift this old lady ordered the most rediculous thing ever. it was like 3/4 coffee 1/4 french vanilla with small cream and she had another coffee with 2 1/2 creams and 1/2 sugar. considering it was my 2nd shift it took me awhile to figure out how to type all that in(which is like impossible) i asked the lady to repeat it. SHE LITERALLLY WAS YELLING AT ME. SHE SAID ARE U JUST RETARDED OR NEW (even tho it says clearly on my name tag i was new) i was very pissed off at her i just said well im new pointing to my name tag. but other than that every1 was ok. and for that get ur money ready. my tim hortons doesnt do that, but i can figure out y they want u to. so ppl order things at drive thro. its like rush time so they have plendy of time sitting in their car collecting change so they can give it to the employee. like sum ppl actually take 2 minutes in their car looking for change IN RUSH TIME. so it get super annoying. so thats probably y they want u to get ur change ready. but if theres no1 else in the drive thro line then i guess it wouldnt be a problem.

I am sooo happy we don’t have a drive thru. I think if we did i would just have to leave, having at 24 hour store. plus a dive thru, I guess it would be ok if we closed the lobby, but meh.

I live in Saint John NB, and we go to Tim Horton’s Rothesay Ave every night just like clock work, well we enjoy going now even more cause the staff at that store hired back an old employee, who was there for a dogs age, this young lady works 2 jobs, and what a change she brings to the store, it is alot cleanner there now and everything seems like a new life was born, she is always happy go lucky
But the problem is that this one guy who is a superviror worked with herlast night and he was real unprofessional, he yelled at her for nothing, and I counted the customers in the store at the time there was 7 adults and 2 kids, and this guy yelled load enought so everyone heard him, now the young lady came out and quitely told him what she was doing and he yells right in her face it don’t take 20mins to use the bathroom, now she was embressed, and my husband wanted tosay something to the jerk but I didn’t what him to cause any trouble, for this young lady, I write a complaint letter to management, and my huband dropped it off this morning…and we will see if this jeck is removed from that store or we will not coming back, and we will make sure our friends go with us.
The store will lose alot of customers, our friend Scott had a run in with this guy, and he told Scott I’m not waiting on you, go to another store, This guy is Real Rude to employee’s and to customers, We don’t understand why do they still have him there.please some one take care of this matter, it seems no one is listen or care about there people they hired. makes the good ones look bad .

As my wife said This guy has to be removed from Tim Hortons or the store is going to lose out…..exspecially when a superviror tells his employee If you do it again I’ll write you up….Question: Don’t your employee’s aloud to use the bathroom or do they need permission to go and use it?

I hope that this one person does not ruin our Timmies name.
We do have fun at work, like today, it was a good day, talking with the costomers, making them laugh, it is always good. and when you have bad customers, the good customers make it all better.
I love my customers, and a few i even have a crush on one or two.
I hope all of my customers love comming in for thier morning coffee as much as i love serving them their morning coffee.

I am a regular customer of tim hortons (orangeville) sometimes going two or three times a day and have always been treated politly. july 13th 2007, nine friends and i were travelling from Port Dover to Wheatley. We made a stop in the town of Alymer, On. to get refreshments and
to stretch our legs. Three of us walked over to the Tim Hortons to get coffee and donuts and use the facilities. whether it was because we were stangers or because we were in our leathers i’m not sure, but I feel that we were snubbed large. At the first register I was standing at the young girl cleaning the display reached over and closed the cash without saying a word, and at the other one that I went to there was no one except a young red haired boy sweeping the floor, there were three others talking at the drivethrou window. Three of us stood there for a few minutes no one even looked over or spoke. No need to say that we eventually left without our coffees, and I’m damn sure I won’t go back. I’ve worked in the fast food industry and have always understood that customers come first, and always be polite, and not just in any business but in life, never judge people by the way they look or dress.

You have to be 15 to work at tim hortons, however, if your are under 15 you have to have a consent form signed by your parents or gardien from the state or province you’re in.
