Tim Hortons Responds

Regular readers will recall that I mentioned my surprise that a Tim Hortons Garden Vegetable Sandwich contains 23 g of fat.  I had been in the habit of ordering this sandwich as a “healthy alternative” without thinking about it (doesn’t garden vegetable sound healthly?).  I sent an email to Tim Hortons, and this is what they wrote me back:

Dear Mr. Rukavina,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding your concerns with the Tim Hortons Garden Vegetable Sandwich.

Tim Hortons has created a Nutrition Guide featuring a cross section of our products.  As you have recently viewed this guide electronically on our website, we hope that you have found the nutritional information useful in helping incorporate Tim Hortons products into your lifestyle.

The Garden Vegetable Sandwich is not advertised as a “healthy alternative” sandwich.  It is prepared with Plain Cream Cheese, Tim Hortons Special Dressing, Cucumber, Tomato and Lettuce.  The total fat content of this sandwich is 23 grams.  The areas of the sandwich in which the fat are located is as follows:

    Plain Cream Cheese, 13.0 grams
    Tims Special Dressing, 9.0 grams
    White Country Bun, 0.5 grams

To lower the total fat of this sandwich, request a sandwich with a Light Cream Cheese and no Tims Special Dressing.

Yours truly,
Consumer Nutrition Co-ordinator
Research & Development

That (a) Tim Hortons would respond at all, (b) they would take my request seriously, and (c) that they have a Consumer Nutrition Co-ordinator are all very heartening things.  Kudos to Tim’s for excellent service.

does anyone know where and when the first Tim Hortons was started. What was the first donut they made, and how much were they selling for?

I just heard on the radio that a Tim Horton’s employee in London, ON was fired for giving a toddler a free Timbit. I have 2 questions- One- is this information correct? Two- If so, I’m just curious- is it a requirement to be a complete heartless, brainless, a-hole douche-bag to be considered for upper management in your franchise? The news went on to say the woman, who by the way is a single mother of 4, was re-hired by another Tim Hortons. A spokesperson for Tim Hortons only commented that the matter was an isolated incident that was handled poorly. Gee,do ya think?

Eve,
You should get your facts straight. The woman was rehired by the same franchisee, and will work in another of his stores. It is unfortunate when a manager acts inappropriately, however, this happens in all businesses, not just Tim Hortons. It is just as unfair for you to judge an entire company because of the actions one one person.
I for one, am proud to work for Tim Hortons. I

I think that is kind of a stupid reason to get fired for. Timbits do cost $.16 but that doesn’t make it a huge deal. They could’ve asked her to pay the 16 cents and gone on with their day but firing her for it? It doesn’t make sense especially if she had worked there for 3 yrs, that was stupid..she was just trying to be nice.

I work for tim hortons on Clifton Hill(the biggest i believe in canada)as a supervisor. I love my job, but its stressfull having to deal with the bs every single day.and as for the timbit thing. The women should have been written -up or warned not fired. Before i worked at this tim hortons. I was in kinda the same situation. I served this customer who wanted a bagel with tim sauce, lettuce, meat and cheese..so i rung that in…but not as a sandwich..so my manager at that time ended up calling me on christmas eve telling me they didnt need me anymore..After that i got the whole story that me not ringing that shit in as a sandwich was considered stealing so they fired me for it!!!..WTF..and now my ex-boss is telling my manager that he let me come work for this one..F**k that BS..

Just a comment for the teacher suggesting that other teachers do the roll up the rim no homework suggestion…

You are teaching your children to be corporate slaves, branding them to support a company where owners make 100 of thousands of dollars a year while the person who is apparently “rude” to some of the posters doesn’t even make enough to live!

You are making their education that of a corporate brainwashing training camp, teaching them that if you sell out to these franchises you will get rewards (AKA no homework). This process is disgusting! I am sure you are a great teacher but you should cut this out (make your students watch Fast Food Nation and deprogram them please!!!!).

As for the people stating that the people behind the counter should be nicer and say thank you etc. If anything the owner should stand behind the counter all day and thank you for his new BMW. These people have nothing to be thankful for except for a job that cannot even keep them in decent housing. 5-6 customers buying coffee, per hour, would pay their wages, after that the profit goes straight into the hands of the capitalist owner. Try tipping and being nice and understand that their lives are not easy, and no they cannot just “go get another job” the job market is not as easy as it used to be. Also understand that the guy before you could have insulted them or yelled at them. Just put yourself in someone else’s shoes before you speak!

I work at tim hortons, and we give free timbits to dogs at drive thru as well as put extra timbits in the timbit boxes…like 1 or 2 but still.. timmies make a good profit and wont suffer a loss from a free timbit, when their expenses are really minimal. >pay employees flat rate… as well as some tim hortons locations that do not work 24/7, at the end of the day befoire closing they DISCARD all the products that werent sold, coz they wouldnt be fresh next morning. so talking about that, they are noit suffering a great loss from those things, or they would find a way to deal with that. there must be more behind the story why she got fired, i bet the manager was trying to find that one last straw, coz didnt like her or something

I can’t believe all the people complaining about their employment at Tim Horton’s. What were you people thinking when you applied for the job? Did you think that you were just going to stand there and make coffee and not hussle, did you think that you were hired for your looks, did you think that you were going to get paid $20.00 an hour? No at your interview you were told what your starting wage would be, you excepted the job. But I know what a lot of you were thinking..”oh ya how hard could it be to pour coffee” Yes I know it can be busy, yes I know that you do get grumpy customers at times. But guess what that’s why your there. Sure you have management saying “If there’s time to lean, there’s time to clean” You aren’t to be leaning, you are to be working. The reason you aren’t to leave Tim Hortons when your on a break is because you are being paid for your break. If your not being paid for your break they can not say “you can not leave”. I do work for a tim hortons as a storefront employee and have been there for a number of years and I love my job. Our management team are wonderful, they have a motto that they go by and that is TREAT EVERYONE WITH COMMAN CURTESEY, DIGNITY AND RESPECT. It’s posted in our staff room as well as they have it posted in their office. Sure sometimes there are customers that come in and are jerks, our management team has always told us if anyone ever treats us disrespectful or swear at us to come and get them and they will have them leave. The management tell us not to deal with the customer as we don’t get paid to deal with them, and that’s why they are there. We have tim points program in place where you can easily earn tim points, you earn tim points for things like showing up to work, recomending a friend, picking up shifts, getting good always fresh marks. An employee can easily earn 400 — 500 tim points a year and each tim point is valued at $1.00 and you can buy really cool things like gift cards for walmart, the bay, canadian tire, movie passes. That’s like a bonus, you don’t get that at other restaurants, you also get medical, dental, life insurance after 3 months as well as your first pay raise based on performance. So yea sure you do work hard but that’s what were there for. So put more of your energy into your job and less ranting about customers, wages and your management team. And furthermore if your that unhappy there…get another job.

Ive been working for Tim Hortos for almost 3 years as a part time job.
I am a supervisor, im young, only 17 years old, going to high school, but ive worked hard to get whare im at.
and really i totally agree with Kathy. your being payed to work.
but like i tell my employees, if its not busy, i dont care if you chat up a storm to your frined
and clean and stock up your station.
To be honest is everyone just stopped bitching about the wages and hoiw terrible the management was, and just did there jobs,
then heres how it would go..the supervisor would be happy,
then the manager would be happy,
then the general manager, then the owner..
happy owner=increase in wages..
its not that hard,
trust me im very well payed for my age at tim hortons, they arnt cheap, but guess what? i busted my back, and worked my heart out to get whare im at..
i didnt just get put up to my postion,
and like i said im the youngest out of the 5 tim hortons that my owner owns.
and ive been praised for my work,
do you think the managemnet is stupid? they know if you work hard,
they know who the slackers are, they know whos strong and whos weak,
if you think you get

and to reply to Hina,
yes your friend will be able to wahre the scarf,
because its in his or her religion belifes correct? to whare the hijabb?
Your friend should be allowed to whare the scarff

Well, yesterday our local Tim’s would not hand out steeped tea. The reason they gave, the city has changed its water supply. Give me a break. Winnipeg has always gotten its water supply from Shoal Lake and still does. THere is nothing that I can find occuring overnight in the media to substantuate this excuse. What gives? I had purchased a tea just the day before. And if the steeping machine, or whatever you call it, cannot safely brew the tea, wouldn’t the coffee makers indeed be in for the same fate, as they are brewed by the same process and water as well? I want a quick answer to this one please.
Sadly addicted to the tea, and a share holder!

I just quit my job at Tim Horton’s, NEVER in my 19 years of working in the restaurant industry have I seen such improper, unprofessional, dare I say illegal work practices under one roof. I applied for the 11-7 shift and was immediately hired as most people don’t want to work the graveyard shift to start with. My first couple of days of training I spent on the front counter just taking orders and cash which was fine, I was briefly explained the cleaning procedures, breaks, etc. My problem was never with the work itself, it was with the management. The store manager was a lovely lady who was both professional and respectful to her workers, the problem I had was with their assistant manager who was nothing more than a miserable purse lipped bully whose mommy was the district manager of the area I live in. Every morning about 15 minutes before end of shift I would ask our manager if she needed anything else done before I clocked off, everyday the response was the same. “No, everything is fine.” I would clock out and never was anything said the next day that I missed this or that. Well, my first encounter with this assistant manager who is all of 19 years old started at 7:02 AM when she sauntered into the store and loudly informed me in front of my co-workers that I was not “allowed” to leave the store until she checked my work to see if she was satisfied. She then proceeded to parade me through the front like a 5 year old waiting for her mother to check to see if she cleaned under her bed before getting to go out to play. I quietly followed, this little girl checked the garbages, the stock, sandwich counter etc, and couldn’t find anything out of sorts so for her big moment she announces to me that “I” forgot to sweep the parking lot and that she was going to do me the favor of letting it go for that day. Needless to say I left that store just left of a massive stroke, I was insulted and humilated to say the least. I decided it’s good hours and not bad pay so let it go and don’t make waves. Well, the following week my manager was pleased with my work in the morning and told me to go home 25 minutes early. The assistant manager apparently took issue with this and when I showed up at 11 for my next shift I was left an “extra cleaning list” that if wasn’t completed by end of shift I would be expected to stay after shift until done. I brought this crap to my managers attention and got a half hearted “I’ll talk to her about it”. Due to the fact that my managers boss is this little brats mother I know damn well nothing will come of my complaint. I have had many a shift of watching this little bully sitting on her buns in the office doing nothing but jotting down her little orders and only coming out long enough to bark out orders or belittle anyone who is a day older than she is. She openly praises the teenages she works with and shows nothing but contempt and disdain for the older ladies in the store who work their butts off every rush hour morning. The open practice of nepotism in that store is appalling, and for less than $10 bucks an hour on nightshift I’ll be damned if I’m going to stay and put up with a spoiled little girl on a powertrip who thinks she can use her mommy to bully people into fearing her everyword. My son is 15 years old and he already knows he’s not to apply for a job at that location. Darn shame too, I liked my co-workers and enjoyed the actual physical work..

Oh, btw, for all you coffee drinkers out there who wonder why their 3/3 don’t have any sugar, I can tell you..It’s because SOME of the workers are too bloody lazy to check their sugar dispensers. If it’s close to empty, you won’t get the full amount…

complaint: I just visited the tim hortons location in coldbrook, nova scotia. I ordered two chillis and 2 large coffees. the same order I had on thursday in new minas nova scotia. 5 miles apart. new minas took the price of the bun .89 off, because we didn’t want it. just now coldbrook took it off alright, but charged the same amount. I said to the manager of the store. ” if I came and ordered two rolls I would be charged .89 each, and she said yes, but, she wasn’t going to take off the .89 even though i didn’t want it. so, I brought them home in a bag.

I will not go there again, as the manager was not pleasant and her reasoning was in sane.

the new minas location, didn’t think twice about not charging us for something we didn’t want.

I think this is extremely unfair, a real rip off, and if there is another person I can send my complaint to, please let me know.

thanks

To start with let me say i am a timmy’s lover but not when i am treated with such rudness as this am. i attempted to order 20 plain sour cream tim bits i was told the price then when i got to the window i waited a full two minutes looking at my order before i called in the window asking if someone would sell me my order..the fellow had to go find someone to do cash..when i checked my order i found glazed sour creams and said my order was wrong inside the window i heard the young fellow have to rudness to say to fellow worker “anyone that has ever come here knows we don’t have them”in a very snotty tone…very poor attitude and service by the time someone came to give me my order four orders were sitting there and when i asked for my money back it took close to five minutes for them to figure out a refund….i have no problems with trainees..i have been one but a drive thru window is supposed to go fast, therefore have well trained people to do it i landed up with just a coffee and it took twenty minutes to get that….and much to my disappointment i found out you donot make plain timbits of any kind so much for the healthy side of things a person has to get a full donut to get a low sugar treat?????

To the poster above,
You expect well trained employees at the drive thru. How do you expect them to get that way?
It is unfortunate that service was not up to standard. I suspect that you probably were not your usual pleasant self either. Drive-thru can be very complicated and intimidating for a new employee, but everyone has to learn, since it is such an important aspect of our business.

On Saturday, July 12th.my wife and I went though the drive thru at your store on Dundas Street in Napanee, Ont.We had just come from a bank machine and had only $20 bills. I paid for our order with a $20 and received change for $10. I asked the girl and was told that she couldn’t check her till until 8:00pm. It was about 8:00am at the time. She took my name and phone number and wrote it on a donut bag. I assured her that the till would NOT work out because she owed me $10. I went back to the store about 12:30pm and talked to the supervisor and was told the same story. Now; keep in mind that the $10 isn’t the issue here because I am the Human Resource Manager for my company and earn an attractive salary. That night my wife and I NEVER received a call and haven’t heard from Tim Hortons since.I e-mailed the customer service department and was assured by someone that an area manager would investigate and that I would receive a call from him or her. Nothing.
My big problem here is that my wife is furious and NOW, so am I. We both feel that we are being looked at as if WE did something wrong. There is NO WAY the till worked out that day unless, ?????.We are very uncomfortable going to that store because of the looks we get and have stopped going there. Another thing; just so you know, I have reported this situation to the Better Business Bureau.
We now would like the $10 plus compensation for our grief and embarrassment and humiliation. We spend a lot of money at Tim Hortons and will continue to do so, but not at that store.I would like so see a substantial gift card show up at my address to put this to sleep. The B.B.B. has my address.
P.S. I will not stop telling my story to everyone I see until this is put to rest. You can bet the $10. STILL WAITING.

Well let me tell you how employees in Trenton, Ontario are treated. I got hired and was being trained for supervisor position. Training at one store in Trenton to go to another one when trained. For the most part the girls were very good but they had this one supervisor there named Laura. She is downright rude. If you stop working for one minute she yells at you in front of customers and in front of the other staff. If you have a problem with someone take them aside.
Apparently she had a problem with me because from day one she was on my back none stop. i am not a stupid person. I was manager of a resort so I know how to deal with the public and with other employees. Anyway, this day they sent me down to watch movies for training and computer was broke again. Went home and called for Chris the manager to call me. No phone call. Wanted to explain to him what it has been like trying to be trained by someone that yells all the time but never received a phone call back from Chris. Have been waiting two days for a call. Left messages for him to call me and he has not done so.
Funny the one thing he said when he hired me was that he did not want a dictator for a supervisor because apparently that is what the last one was. Well that is exactly what he has with this Laura. None of the other girls think much of her but they are all scared to go to manager about her.
As far as breaks go you don’t get a lunch time. you only get two breaks in an 8 hour period.

I don’t understand whats going on with the stirring coffee? According to the training video, the art of coffee, it clearly says to stir if there is sugar or sweetners. and no matter how busy it gets, the coffee is ALWAYS stirred at my store. Im sure if you write out a complaint for the complaint box, the manager will take care of it. oh and for bagels, the video says to put the cream cheese on one side unless specifically requested but i dont listen to that stupid rule and i spread on both sides.

For not talking to you in drive thru, we have a 25 sec. policy AND a 5 sec. policy for answering the beep in the speaker and often, its only one person to hand out the stuff, take the money, give the change AND at the same time take someone elses order in less than 25 seconds!!!

ONE more thing, im a teenager and i dont skip work or spend my money on beer or cigaretts. i save my money to get a liscense and to get a degree so i can get a better job in the futur. i sometimes come in early about 10 or 15 mins just to relieve the day shift workers so they can go home earlier.

Hello,I am a cross trained production-store front cashier employee at a Tim Horton’s restaurant in New Brunswick. This job serves to pay my bills and college fees while I finish my degree at the University of New Brunswick.
I am paid $8.00 an hour [this is above New Brunswick’s Minimum wage,SO you can tell I have worked there for a while] plus whatever I get in tips at the end of the shift and am forced to work 40-65 hour work weeks [during the summer] due to the severe shortage of staff. There are many problems in and about the Tim Horton’s corporation, residing with both employees and customers. Customers have come to expect the Tim Horton’s employee to freshly, perfectly , prepare, and serve; hot and cold beverages, sandwiches, soups and other food items too 5-600 cars a shift without making a single mistake. Furthermore the Tim Horton’s employee is expected by the customer to do all these things for them in a less than 60 second time span regardless of influencing factors [staffing, product quantities, volume of customers being served, etc & etc]
Obviously this expectation is not being met. The customer leaves dissatisfied, often expressing it verbally in terms that one wouldn’t use in front of children. The employee feels devalued and demeaned ending with even less motivation and incentive to provide adequate and correct service to the next customer. Furthermore, the Tim Horton’s corporation expects the employee to adhere rigidly to often unyielding and in some instances unrealistic standards. These faults of the customer and these faults of the corporation provide ever less motivation and incentive for the creation of a skilled, motivated and adequate workforce which entirely necessary if even the rudiments of the corporate and customer expectations are to be achieved

Gunther's picture
Gunther on August 4, 2008 - 05:59 Permalink

The facts of the situation are thus;
The Staffing of the majority of Tim Horton’s businesses is inadequate to the task:
1) In Numbers of Warm bodies to serve the customers
2) In terms of experience, an ever increasing number of staff hired at my location have yet to enter high school or ever to have a previous job.
3) Quality, the desperation of the company for employees forces it to hire almost anyone regardless of past employment.
The Management of the majority of Tim Horton’s Businesses is inadequate:
1) In terms of securing adequate staff of sufficient quality
2) In terms of securing sufficient supplies of product to satisfy customer base
3) In terms of creating an atmosphere where employees will want to work towards achieving the afore mentioned standards.

The Marketing of the franchise is also inadequate to the task:
1) In terms of brand identity Tim Horton’s is failing to “be good ” at any one role; is it fast food? , is it a atmosphere centric cafe? Is it a restaurant? Put simply the brand is trying to do too many things.

The franchise needs a return to or a relaunching under the banner of freshly prepared [ not freshly reheated] locally relevant goods . The franchise needs to establish a professional atmosphere where the employees are paid competitively [ in competition with REAL restaurants, not fast food joints which is only hurting the customer base]and disciplined appropriately to deliver smooth efficient service. Smooth meaning not break neck fast [aka current over stressed service times] but also not snail slow. With customers satisfied the pressure on employees will slacken, and with the removal of the fast food abomination, “stupid” customer’s will go elsewhere.

to everyone complaining about the service at Tim Hortons: what do you expect of people that work for minimum wage (or close to it), standing for 7-8 hours, while co-workers and customers are rude to them all day long? i recently worked at one for a few shifts, and let me just tell you, the working conditions are absolutely HORRIBLE— although i know it may differ from location to location, generally they seem to hire anyone they can, pay low wages, treat them badly, while still expecting above-and-beyond customer service.

i also should mention, the Tim Hortons location i was at has still not paid me my wages in 3 weeks.

I have some how ended up on this blog as i own multiple businesses and iam looking for another,so we were thinking of a tim hortons franchise.but i have to comment on some of the things i have read in the past 10 minutes.if you do not enjoy your job-QUIT.is that a foreign word? all i hear is people whining and complaining about their jobs or service they get(lack thereof i shall say). there is a simple solution to both these things. if you are an unhappy employee quit your job and find a new one instead of whining about it.suck it up,this is life and if youre not happy with the way youre living it is up to you to change it.im very short staffed in my restaurant, but all of my employees enjoy working here, and i would rather not have an employee(and im desperate!) that was not enjoying their customers or position within my place of business.i consider my self to be very lucky that i live in canada and may choose what i do for a living,in many countries you are forced to work in horrible conditions for next to nothing,i wouldnt be complaining about $8.60/hr,if you dont like it work at a higher paying job,i can guarantee you that you will have far more responsibilities but will earn more, its give and take. i work about 18 hours a day and do you hear me complaining-NO,and that is because this is what i made as a choice for myself and if i didnt think it was worth my efforts i would not continue to do this line of work,as im the only one that can make decisions for myself, stop acting as if you are a toddler, and make up your minds as to where you want to be in life professionally.the same thing goes to dissatisfied customers, this ones a quick fix-DONT GO BACK. if tim hortons is causing you so much stress in your life that you need to complain to anyone that will read or listen stop purchasing their product.just a hint, contact the head owners and see if it is possible to speak with them as talking to management or supervisors is not going to get back to them,if it is a serious disrespect issue,as i wouldnt be pleased if a person working the drive-thru used a racial slur towards me or anyone i know.

I currently work at a Tim Hortons and am being paid Minimum wage, get treated like shit by customers everyday and get ordered around constantly. It’s one thing to have to put up with management and supervisors ordering you around but I will most definitely be rude to ANY customer who treats me like shit. Do on to others as you would have do on to you. Honestly, you can’t expect to treat the Timmys employee like shit and have them smile back at you with a “oh thank you!!!” or “Have a nice evening!”. The majority of the customers that come into Tim Hortons don’t even know what it’s like to have to put up with other peoples shit all day long and do it for only MINIMUM WAGE! I can’t stress that enough. We’re not gonna nod and smile if you’re treating us like shit for minimum wage. A lot of you wouldn’t even smile and nod for $20 or $30 an hour. The way I see it, until you’ve worked for a place like Tim Hortons for MORE than 3 months, hell maybe even longer than that, and FULL TIME might I add, you have NO RIGHT whatsoever to bitch. Take your god damn coffee and shut up.

Oh and another little tip for customers. Don’t use our names like you know us. Nothing makes you look like a bigger moron than when you read our names off our nametags and go “Hello *what ever the employees name is* I’d like a..” People seem to think it’s witty or smart, but you look like a complete moron doing it AND it just makes the employee serving you irritated and makes them more inclined to treat you like the asshole you are.

Honestly, get a life people and stop bitching about employees that are paid enough to deal with your bullshit.

And I never thought I’d DEFEND Tim Hortons about this but I saw a couple people bitching about the brewed tea costing more than bagged tea. Ok, SOME people actually like it and don’t mind paying an extra 50 cents for it. What’s the point of bitching about the price though if you say it tastes like shit and would never have it again? What does it matter?? Your bagged tea is still the same as your coffees. But either way, you come off as idiotic cheapskate. If you can’t afford an extra 50 cents for the tea you CLAIM you don’t like so much, then what the hell are you doing spending like $5 or more a day on coffee or tea??

Definitely will be glad when my last 2 weeks are up.

I’ve noticed that Tim Horton’s has changed some of the items on their menu. The cheese croissant and the butter croissant and the cherry cheese danishes, these items were my favorite, but not anymore. Due to the fact they have added more air to the product, the cheese croissants used to be filled with cheese and they were delicious. Now they are filled with air and taste like crap, the cheese danishes are the same. Seems you have lowered the quality of the food and did not lower the prices, so again Tim Horton’s gets rich!!!! I went to Coffee Time today for a bagel for the first time and WOW…my wife was right…they make an AWESOME bagel.

tim hortons has become just another fast food restaurant with poor service and processed and packaged foods.i get a chill up my spine when they advertise fresh or homemade products, what could they be speaking of the frozen doughnuts, soup, bagels all factory and mass produced and beverages that were unique in a fountain format now bottled in plastic.it also might be a good time to check with tdl and find out who there cold meats supplier is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate Tim Hortons,

I worked there a few years ago, decided to go back to a different store. So if you work morning shift, you have to call the boss to call in sick at home. I worked at 6am and one day I was sick so I call leave a message, go back to bed. Then at 6 I get a call saying “where are you blah blah blah” I tell them I called and the girl swears on the phone, then demands a doctors note. So fine get the doctors note, Im sick who cares I get the note then at like 7pm I get a call from work “Are you going to show up tomorrow” this girl is a bitch it was a manager that just came back from mat leave. So I never met this chick and shes treating me like I’m the worst employee there. and this was my first time calling in sick!!!

So I said fuck it, I didn’t go the next day, I figure I can get a better job. Get this though. Its been a month since I left and im still fighting to get my last freaking pay check!! They keep saying they have sent it out, I received my pay stub and roe but no pay. I have called and the owner isn’t in when I call, and half the time I call the owner doesnt get the message.

I called Human resources at the head office, and havent heard back from them either. Im pissed!

Hi,

I work at the Tim Hortons in Napanee by the 401 and I have to say that I really like my job. The customers are great and don’t mind waiting a few seconds if I have to brew a fresh pot, or if I have to grab something from the back. The managers, owner, and all of the supervisors are really great too.

Like many people on here, i don’t understand what all of the complaining is about. I mean, the job just IS what it IS. there is nothing exceptionally difficult about it and so i don’t understand the whining about the pay, you DO have to WORK, and you are not being paid to stand around.

The customers, for the most part, are fairly patient and the staff all have great attitudes. While it is not the most stressful job I have had, I do agree that yes, at times it can be a little stressful when you have a line out the door, but you can only do what you can do…. keep serving coffee. Clean the stations and the store when the customers have dispersed, be generally polite and smile, get paid and go home.

I mean, really, what is the big deal?

As for irritable customers, who cares? so they are irritable, so what? Really, I LOVE the grouchy ones. They get up to my till, make a scene about this or that, and then the person who was standing behind them SEES what a moron that guy was, and gives me an extra tip….

I was very angry after coming to work, sitting down at my desk to open my lid and see that I was given a large coffee with creamer, and not a french vanilla cap. like I had ordered. This has happened to me twice. My whole work day was shot.

I would like to complain about the Tim Hortons at Aimco and Dixie rd. in Mississauga ON. I spent a Half hour waiting at the drive through at this facility in order to get a soup and a coffee. What I would like to know is why it takes so long at this location as this is not the first time that the drive through line takes too much time. I find the employees far too slow and time is of the essence for alot of us.

Annonymous Oct 8th…What you’re talking about is a generalization about Tim Horton’s. I’ve worked at 3 different establishments and been under 2 different owners. The first location I was employed at was just as you said, but the second and third are fantastic places to work at. #2 and #3 are owned by the same person. They know how to keep employees happy and give outstanding customer service. The way you should have worded your comment was “I work at Tim Horton’s and the owner is horrible” or “the place I work at is horrible.” When you make general statements about the corporation, you are being highly inaccurate. Never has anyone I know been asked to work without a break. That’s actually illegal. Nor has anyone been asked to work beyond 8hrs without agreeing to it. I see that your spelling needs some improvement as well. Perhaps if it’s wearing you down at 14, you should consider focusing on school and leaving the establishment that hired you. I’m sorry that your experience has been so negative.

Melanie oct 1… Where I work, I require all of my employees working in the drive-through to mark the lids of ALL the drinks that are passed out the window. The same thing happened to my husband at another establishment and he filed a complaint, suggesting that they mark their lids as well. He goes there regularly and says that now every time he visits, his lid is clearly marked. Perhaps you should consider making the same complaint/suggestion to the Tim Horton’s you visit regularly.

To whom it may concern,
I am very disappointed that you guys decide to discontinue the XL sizes therefore, You have lost a Customer and due to the fact you hire employees that always screw up on all orders.

Well there were some unhappy people leaving notes here…why do some people need to complain so much about such little things.

If you don’t like the service then straight away notify the manager on duty and get it sorted out then and there. If something is stale then return it and ask for another one. Get the issue resolve as soon as possible and you will feel better and the mishap will be sorted out and you would not have to fester with the problem and then feel the need to post it on some web site where the owner or manager may not even read. All that amounts to is big words and no action on your part.

I myself used to work at a Tim Hortons and had a change for a few years and now have applied back to the same store and hope to get the call this week to start working. For me it’s going back to some thing I enjoyed doing and talking to the customer face to face, ( I was in a call center…try that job for a while!) and it will be nice to move around again and not sit on my Butt and work with others in a fast paced enviroment and of course see the customer indeed of a voice over the phone. I was a great employee and many customers thought I was great and they will be happy to see me back.

YOu have to make a choice every day weather to be a grumpy Guss or a happy person and do your best. Many of us do that for you the customer then you the customer should be trying that for us…it works!

Have a great day!

To Mike:

In regards to the Staff always screwing up orders, that may be true, however not in all stores. The head of the company does not hire the staff, the managers/owners do, Not a lot of people want to work at Tim Hortons, because they would rather a real job, or dont like the hours, so they basically take what they can get. Take for instance calgary, I find that most Tim hortons are very slow, and you have to repeat because the staff most of them are east-indian, and not many english folk are working there. (Where have we disappeared to?). And please don’t take that as racism, as it is not intended to be.

Hi we traveled across Canada with our dog — at each Tim Horton’s we were treated well and so was our dog who was always given a tim bit — until we arrived here on Vancouver Island, where we have had to buy one tim bit for .25 cents for our dog — is there no customer service here or what! It’s all part of arrogance that is so wide spread on the island which is like 50 years behind anyways!!!
