There was a great confluence of GTD energy washing over me today. First, I listened to the latest Inside the Net wherein Amber and Leo interview Merlin Mann of 43 Folders. Then, following up on a mention of Kinkless GTD, I upgrade my OmniOutliner to “pro” and installed the set of add-ons known as kGTD. Finally, I spent about 3 hours emptying my email in-box, either deleting, archiving, or moving items into my snazzy new GTDly outline. And so now, for the first time in many months, I’ve achieved:

No Messages!

And:

kGTD in action

I’m the last one to adopt new “organizational systems” like Getting Things Done; I’m just too suspicious. But the coincidence of overwhelmingness, an organizational system, and a cool Mac OS X tool that can help has pushed me over into the deep end.

I’ll let you know if it works.

I have been on the lookout myself, for a system, or way, or trick, to make me more organized. GTD folks have held their hands in the air a lot, and I thought it was for me, for a while. I wrote things down on scraps of paper. (Sometimes.)

I had seen the software tool you talk about. When it turned out I needed the Pro version of its “host application” (Omni Outliner), I was put off: “Spending money on this?”

This blog post was the turning point: now I have purchased OmniOutliner Pro (to be able to use the free software kGTD). I have also emptied my inbox (again, since Luisa taught me how to do it a while ago. Again, I should say: she has taught it to me around three times. “Looks like it’ll stick this time”, she comments. Wryly.)

Now, I also need to “empty my mind” more, into the assuring list of “actions” in the software. And, I also need to start backing stuff up better.
