Note from Mom: Huh?

Air Canada ranked best in North America. Who did they interview for this? Was the question something like “would you like to chew off your own leg, or fly Air Canada?”

Hmmm interesting… the G&M report says that the “Star Alliance.. was ranked as the best airling alliance” (according to the 12 million travelers surveyed). ‘Begs the question: What percentage of the 12 million would be able to answer the question, “What is the difference between services provided by an airline and those provided by an airline alliance?”, or perhaps something quite simple, “What is an airline alliance?”, or even, “How do you know when your airline alliance is performing well?”

Perhaps I just don’t fly often enough to know these things.

Surveys don’t mean much when answers are sought from respondents who’s knowledge (upon which they base their reply) remains of trivial or nonexistent importance.

I bet a lot of responders have flown _only_ Air Canada and an overlapping bunch of responders voted Air Canada under influence of patriotism and another bunch flies AC 4 out 5 times they fly and they can’t remember which were which but they don’t mind flying generally so they voted for AC. Weekly independent papers have these “reader’s picks” surveys and often winners are some nothing-special franchise that attracts a lot of unpicky customers who nevertheless enjoy voting and like to vote for the place they go.

Or maybe Air Canada is the best because the rest suck worse. Personally I feel more comfortable flying AC because it feels like I’m closer to home than on any other airline. YOu know, because it’s called Air Canada. And they speak French and understand my Canadianosity. Air Canada is my favourite way to fly, but then I hate flying in general and do more driving these days given the choice.

…but then I hate flying in general…

you hit the nail on the head. flying does suck and so does driving, long distances anyway.

go via rail or amtrak, best deal money can buy for long distance, use public transit locally. if you need to go overseas, use a ship. i so loath flying that i jumped for joy when all those airlines started bankrupting after 9/11, sad that it took such an event to wake the rest of the flying morons up.

i’m continuing to write every mp about getting airport rents jacked UP and not DOWN like all the other whiners in this world want… gov’t might as well suck every cent out of the flying and driving public and put that cash into more sustainable surface transport.

throw tolls on all the highways too. we canucks have been getting a free ride when it comes to transport for far too long, not paying the real cost and letting it come out of our income taxes.
