At CasaMiaMail.com you can sign up to receive a daily email letting you know what the specials at Casa Mia Restaurant are. I’d appreciate any feedback you might have on the mechanics of signing up.

Since you asked… It should send a welcome email after successful account confirmation. That welcome email should contain unsubscribe info. I am assuming the unsub instructions are in the daily email, as they are not on the website or in the confirm msg. Ticking the checkbox AND pressing the Sign Me Up button seems redundant, but is in keeping with messages on other sites saying that you have read such and such an agreement. Privacy msg is simple and clear. Seems strange that they can email YOU, but you cannot email THEM, as they have no email address listed. Signing up again with same address does not send a message saying that I am already signed up, and it prompts me by email to click again on the confirmation link. How about an RSS subscription, too?

Derek, thank you for your comments. 1. I’ve added an additional “you’re signed up” email after you confirm. This email, as you suggest, contains unsubscribe instructions (these are also included with every daily email). 2. Forcing a ticked checkbox adds a little bit of affirmation, which never hurts when one is electing to receive email. 3. There’s now a contact email address listed on the website. 4. Because the system is simple, and doesn’t require any sort of authentication, if you sign up for a second time, we simply replace your original sign-up with a new one. If we gave you an “I am already signed up” message, this would lead to a potential privacy leak: I could tell if you were subscribed simply by entering your email. 5. RSS is coming.

It’s perfect now, except for the fact that our office is moving from Queen St. to the APM box in West Royalty, and I may have difficulty partaking of said daily specials!

This is neat but my email address (as provided with this comment) was deemed invalid. Just to be sure, I re-entered it a few times. Is my email address too long?

Mary Lou, I’ve identified the issue with your email address being rejected (it was the dash that was causing the issue — our email address validator was being over-zealous). You should now be able to subscribe without issue. Thanks for pointing out the problem.
