Aliant Tea Leaves

I’ve been reading the tea leaves, and I’m betting that we’ll see the end of Island Tel (err Island Telecom, or whatever) as a brand in the next 3 to 6 months, being replaced entirely by Aliant.

The signs: friends have been called by pollsters on issue, the recorded operator message you get when you call 411 or make a calling card call says, at least some of the time, “Thank you for using Aliant Telecom” (it used to say “MT&T and Island Tel”), and the font size of “An Aliant Company” relative to the legacy company logos has been growing.

I noticed while watching CBC Halifax TV news the other day that the MT+T references were gone and replaced by Aliant in the Ads. I also note that the Island Tel sign at the building is now replaced with an Island Tel/Aliant sign which will easily replaced by an Aliant sign soon. Odd for Aliant to spend all the separate marketing money when it has not been four companies for all this time.

I thought Aliant was going to keep the Islandtel, MT&T, Newtel and NBTel Names? So how long before the utility trucks get name changes? I noticed a lot of Islandtel vans have NS plates on them. My email address better not change to @pei.aliant.ca…

Also, while on the Telco discussion, what’s this I have been hearing about PEI getting a new area code in the next few years? Or 10 digit dialling?
