Act Quickly Summer is Almost Over

When I woke up this morning I realized that July 31 is coming up on Wednesday, which means there’s only a month of summer left. I panicked and fled to the letterpress shop to compose myself.

These little “ACT QUICKLY SUMMER IS ALMOST OVER” broadsides (can you call them broadsides if they’re not broad?) are printed on Japanese paper I bought in Toyko in March at Ito Ya. It’s a “sampler pack” of 10cm x 10cm pieces, 100 to a pack, for ¥504 (about $5.25 Canadian).

I think the next level up in my career as a printer will be learning to cut lead type for kerning: the “LY” in “QUICKLY” is quite unappealing as it is here, rectangles being rectangles; cutting a notch in the “L” and the “Y” so that they can hug more naturally would fix that.

Arrived today by postal mail, was glad to see it. My son Nate was very eager to see what it was all about. Just spent the last ten minutes browsing your site with him and explaining type face, fonts, etc. the best I can. Also, loved the Tragically Hip stamp!

Got this this morning (I hate double thisses)- very cool. The anonymity of it at first fed a misguided sense of self-importance as if I have a stalker. Although mildly exciting to me, Pauline insisted I google it and lo and behold there was Ruk. Thanks Peter. Send me your address and I'll send you something that will be cool.
