Tim Hortons Charges Dogs for Tim-Bits

Barb McKenna reports from the canine frontier [RealAudio] about Tim Hortons’ new policy of charging 18 cents (including GST) for Tim-Bits for dogs. They used to be free.

Let’s say that Tim’s gives away 100,000 Tim-Bits a year on PEI (that seems like a lot, but who knows) and the cost of making a Tim-Bit is, say, 5 cents. That means that $10,000 of lost profit over the course of a year.

That seems like an awfully cheap way to engender the goodwill of dog-owning Islanders.

I don’t get it… people feed their dogs this junk? How to shorten the animal’s lifespan by fattening them up, weakening their heart, rotting their teeth… and I presume they’re stale to begin with?

They should bite their owners for that.

I realize that this article is old but I thought I'd comment any way. Our dog is raw fed and gets all natural dog treats. However, when we go through the Tim Horton's drive through, she enjoys her single, plain Tim Bit. She knows that she gets one every time and she gets super excited about it. One Tim Bit once or twice a week is not the difference between life and death for her.

Dogs are like humans, from time to time they enjoy a treat. I see nothing wrong in feeding a dog the odd tim bit. Heck, my Rabbit’s favorite treat is hickory sticks or ginger snap cookies, shes 9 years old and not a fat rabbit by the way.

Agree! NO harm in the odd treat!! You are not only responsable for what you feed your dog but you sould also getting out there walking your dog everyday so he does NOT gain weight. That timbit will be all gone with a 4-5 km walk! Let them enjoy!! :)

Lord help you, Garrity, if you are ever trapped in a crevasse in the Alps and the only chance if rescue is from a St. Bernard that reads this blog.

If you ever watched a dog wander around outside and saw some of the stuff they’ll eat a donut wouldn’t bother you much at all.

True Al, but voluntarily giving them sugar seems a bit nuts — then again I’m biased from having a friend who’s trying to become a vet.

As long as they’re not chocolate timbits it won’t harm them in the short term…

Recall that Pavlov did his early work with Dogs.

I have a friend whose dog is so keyed to Tim Bits that every time he sees a Tim’s sign as they drive by in the car he goes nuts.

Of course there is little worse that you can give a dog but if i was Catbirt, the Evil Marketing Guy at Tims I would not have made this call.

I’m with Garrity on this one. Dogs with dogs, people with people. I had a deal with my dog — I won’t eat your kibble, you don’t eat my burger. She complied — most of the time. As long as the food was out of reach.

Whoa, boys! What about the hygeine content in that news clip on Canada Now. The attendant put the timbit directly in the dog’s mouth. No indication of disposable gloves or hands being washed after. Kinda put me off Tim’s. Wonder what else goes on out of sight of the cameras. Of course, this could just be a woman thing…

i thought this discussion might be intresting until i read the comments by tj…don’t they have parental control on your computer. The reason that they are charged for the timbits is that they are frozen shipped from ontario. The cost and waste has to be more accounted for. Just give your dog a bit of yours if it bothers you so much or go to robins… they are free there.

I have a dog that loves TimBits. There is nothing wrong about giving your dog plain timbits. People that complain about this subject probably doesn’t EVEN have a dog. How would people feel if they were fed steak and potatoes 7 days a week 2 meals a day, it would get awfully boring. IT’S OK TO GIVE YOUR DOG A TREAT EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE. GET OVER IT.

So…the other day an Asian man in his 30’s comes through drive thru and asks for a coffee and any kind of timbit. I am product running and grab a chocolate glazed timbit. To my dismay (although the driver’s stupidity was funny) he gave the chocolate timbit to his little dog! So ya, plain old fashioned is what the man got the next time he came through!

i give my dog tim bits and a lot of other stuff. i don’t think it is wrong to feed them what they want. if they want to eat plastic i let them. they are their own person and it is not fair for us humans to tell them what to do. it is about time we were all made equals, there is no point in have differences between us.

we talk about equality and say owning slaves is a thing of the past but yet we treat our animals as slaves. it is about time they we not treated as stupid, they know what they are doing and they know what food is good or bad for them. they deserve more credit then what they are giving them..

so everyone relax and take some time to logically think about things before you shoot off your mouth. i am glad i came across this post and am able to teach people and help them look at things realistically and differently..

thanks for reading :)

Very interesting points Boris, As an animal rights activist I fully support and agree with you. I personally cannot stress enough how important it is to remove the separation between man and anmimal. Hey we are all mammals and that is why I am pushing with my committee to category every living thing as “humaminals”. No dogs, cats, male, female… just all human mammals and animals, which obviously equals the term humaminals. There has been a lot of support shown for this movement and we are currently grossing 300 000 USD per year of government funded money.

Thanks for reading…
