Jane Siberry’s New Album

I believe I may be the world’s biggest Jane Siberry fan.

Or at least I’m in the top 100. Let’s just say that when I’m done changing Oliver’s diaper, and want him to stand up from the changing table, I say “Stand up Mimi!”

So today is an important and exciting day: her new album, Shushan the Palace (Hymns of Earth) arrived in the mail today.

This ain’t no Mimi on the Beach: it’s subtitled “Centuries-old Hymns by Handel, Bach, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Rossetti, Holst, et al.”

I’m listening right now. It’s wonderful.

Jane Siberry is an angel and a secret Canadian Treasure, “One More Colour” may be the last 45RPM I bought; her crystallien vocals and magical imagery remain fresh every time I listen.
Another wonderfully evocative, woman/singer/songwriter/hidden treasure albeit not Canadian, but highly recommended (by me anyway) is Annie Gallup, particularly her album “Swerve”

Her patronage program is a very good idea. There are a few painters I buy from with half that in mind but in the world of downloading smallering recording artists needs patrons as much. It would be interesting if there was a central place on the web to do so — artist signs up on certain terms and prospective patrons go to donate to those they find and central entity issues as tax receipt.
