Hurt

Catherine turned me on to this Johnny Cash video [streaming Quicktime]. It’s very good.

I have been sending that to friends for the past week. Great original, even better cover song in my opinnion.

A brilliant, haunting video directed by a talented guy, Mark Romanek… he made his creepy feature-length debut this past year with One Hour Photo, starring Robin Williams.

And he has a well-maintained site. www.markromanek.com

i saw that video for the first time at the gym (i’ve only worked out twice in the last year, just to keep it honest) on those little screens that are on the equipment — but i didn’t have any headphones with me. after all the britney spears schlock i had been subjected to this video came on and i was trying to figure out how i could do something to hear it — and then i came across this link to it today. for my money, that video is subversive and radical and brilliant in more ways than i have fingers to count. I remember being blown away by American Recordings — http://www.amazon.com/exec/obi… — because it was such good music and so passionately human. Johnny Cash stands for something and for a time — for real music, real emotions and the era before music became “product” and “units” and was an “album”.

Gosh stephen, well said! I hardly dare after your insight… after watching him and reading you it made me wonder what his career might have been if he found that voice way back when… then I think people might not have “got” it and he’d have been another statistic. Good to see that side of his soul though..
