Nokia Map Loader 2.0

Nokia Map Loader 2.0 came out of beta today. This is a big step, as the old Map Loader never worked for me — something to do with Parallels and USB and device drivers — and I was forced to resort to other means to load map data into my Nokia N95.

I’m happy to report that the new version supports “PC Suite” mode for data transfer, routing around my USB issues. And it’s a much slicker application too.

Follow-up: it seems that the Nokia Maps 2.0 installation on my N95 was happily using the old 1.0 map files that I’d previously loaded on the device. When I installed the new Map Loader, I was prompted to re-install these, and the new maps seem to be an improvement (for example, there’s no longer a train station showing up on Clark Street in back of the Polyclinic in Charlottetown!).

Nokia Map Loader only works on Windows with .net framework installed.

It doesn’t work on Linux or Mac. And if you’re in a hotel, at school or work, or in an internet cafe, there’s not much chance that you can install maploader and .net framework.

But you can download all maps straight from Nokia’s own server without installing anything through http://nokiamaps.site666.info. Works with all web browsers on all operating systems.
